🚨Scientists say a wormhole might be able to send a message into the past.

Wormholes are hypothetical tunnels through spacetime that could connect distant regions of the Universe through a shortcut. While allowed by Einstein’s equations, they are generally believed to collapse too quickly for anything to pass through them.

⚛️ A quantum loophole

Researchers investigated whether quantum effects could help keep a wormhole open for a brief moment.

The idea involves the Casimir effect, a phenomenon in quantum physics where empty space can contain regions of negative energy under certain conditions.

Instead of relying on artificial structures, the study explored whether a wormhole’s own geometry could naturally generate this negative energy.

✨ A brief window

The calculations showed that an extremely long and narrow wormhole could produce a small amount of negative energy within its throat.

This wouldn’t make the wormhole permanently stable, but it could slow its collapse enough for a pulse of light to travel through before the tunnel closes.

⏳ Communication through time?

One of the strangest implications of wormhole physics is that, under certain conditions, the two ends could become separated not only in space but also in time.

In principle, this means a signal passing through such a wormhole could arrive earlier than expected—or even appear to travel backward in time.

However, this remains a mathematical possibility rather than a practical technology.

🚀 Still purely theoretical

No wormhole has ever been observed, and there is currently no known way to create or control one.

The research simply shows that quantum effects may alter the behavior of wormholes in unexpected ways, keeping them open slightly longer than previously assumed.
