This is St James’s Park, London. The purple blob is a balloon. This is important because…

1. Part of reason why i don’t like ballon’s (plastic stuff innit).

2. I THOUGHT THIS WAS GOING TO BE A GREY-HEADED SWAMPHEN!!! (or Purple Swamphen in old or new money depending on what it was called before the split and then lumping, I’ve lost track)

Well I was gutted but that’s birding. Sometimes it’s bingo and other times it’s like a slow old train not getting anywhere too fast. You’ve gotta learn to enjoy those days too

I don’t always jump on it, the old twitching game. And I have been on the reporting front for a few weeks so itching to get a bit further afield. Along the M40 and I’m in a field waiting for a Long-tailed Shrike. The 2nd (? I think the recent Scottish bird is considered to be the same bird but not 100%) for the UK and after Western Isles bird where some twitchers were left stranded on a broken down boat between the mainland and the bird…. The bird showed well but didn’t call. I know it has and I’ve sound recorded them before in India so would have been nice to record it again but that is ok. Also present a few Whinchat, Common Redstart and Corn Bunting nice!

Back to the beautiful old patch of Walthamstow Res❤️ I met up with Kabir Kaul for our annual meet up. Sam O'Donnell had found a Pied Flycatcher the day before (thank you) and it was still present by the old paddock east of No5 reservoir. It took a while, three sweeps before we found it and then BINGO! This sexy flycatcher was there. Typically sitting still for ages and then getting active. Lovely. My third for the site. I had one in 1996 and 1997 so thirty years since my first! What a great day
