🇳🇱❤️🇦🇹 Friendship made in Congo
So happy about this revival with our friends ! We’re already looking forward to seeing you again soon … for some hiking/biking (a new saddle can be organised)/climbing/kayaking/…, great conversations and „a taste for the tongue“. And, who knows, maybe there will even be a Landy-Hilli cooperative in the future?

Our time in the Cape Town area was way too short — but packed with unforgettable moments.

Huge thanks to our wonderful hosts, Martin and Sasha, who made us feel completely at home, cooked an amazing dinner, and gave us all the local tips (better than any guidebook!). So happy we met at Tagbo Lodge/Ghana last Christmas - it’s been great to spend the last days of our journey in your lovely BnB

We hiked up Elsie’s Peak and were lucky enough to spot a caracal (!), cruised the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive, and met the coolest cyclist *ever* along the way.

Table mountain was yet another cool (actually very hot 🥵) hike/gondola ride and the views were simply spectacular - as was the moon we saw one night.

Fishhoek also features one of the most useful shops ever. We didn’t have to go there though - our happiness batteries are fully charged after this sabbatical trip 🌈❤️☀️

Many things have shaped our overlanding journey through Africa, but the most meaningful by far have been the people we’ve met along the way. One truly unforgettable encounter was with Andres and Justine.

We first crossed paths during a brief overnight stay at Kruger National Park, camping side by side but with little chance to connect. From there, we moved on—Joburg, then Royal Natal. On our way to Ballito, we spontaneously decided to spend another night in the Drakensberg mountains and found a quiet little campsite. And guess who we bumped into again?

None of us could believe the coincidence. Hail serendipity!

Within five minutes of chatting, we were invited to their home in Franschhoek. Two weeks later, we arrived—and were welcomed like old friends. Those days spent with Andres and Justine were pure joy. They made us feel like family, and we loved every moment in their company.

It’s such a rare and beautiful thing when you meet people and instantly click. Thank you, dear friends, for making our last days in South Africa so special. We truly hope our paths cross again—on either side of the world.

Spent a very relaxed Sunday in Franschhoek — a historic gem in the Cape Winelands that punches way above its size. Founded by French Huguenots in the 1600s, it blends European heritage with South African beauty, award-winning wine, and food that’s made it the country’s gourmet capital. We even attempted some boutique browsing (turns out we’re not great shoppers — exhausting stuff), so naturally we took a break… and ended up beer tasting instead. Priorities. 🍻 one more highlight: a fantastic dining experience at - exquisite food and charming service 👌

We arrived at the Indian Ocean - unbelievable 🤯
Ballito, you beauty! This lovely seaside town had us feeling like we actually were on holiday every second of the day. We had a great reunion with daredevil Alan and camped at Dolphin Holiday Resort — honestly the most beautiful campsite-in-a-town which really looks more like a proper botanical garden.
Early mornings brought some incredible East Coast sunrises (no sunsets here!) and we even tried our hand at (shark) fishing … let’s just say, we might have officially ended our angling careers on Craig’s boat somewhere off the coast of Durban 🐟🫣
Also… we might’ve eaten the biggest fried seafood platter known to man … and no, we did not sleep well afterwards. Worth it? 100%.
We left with full hearts (and stomachs) — until next time.

Wir haben den Indischen Ozean erreicht – einfach unglaublich 🤯
Ballito! Dieses charmante Küstenstädtchen hat sich wirklich wie Urlaub angefühlt – jede einzelne Sekunde. Es gab ein herzliches Wiedersehen mit legendary Alan, der wirklich alles gegeben hat, um unseren Aufenthalt unvergesslich zu machen. Gecampt haben wir im Dolphin Holiday Resort – der schönste Campingplatz / botanische Garten mitten in einer Stadt, den wir je gesehen haben.
Die frühen Morgenstunden brachten atemberaubende Sonnenaufgänge an der Ostküste (Sonnenuntergänge gibt’s hier nicht!) und wir haben sogar unser Glück beim Hai-Angeln versucht … sagen wir mal so: Unsere Angelkarriere ist vermutlich offiziell auf Craigs Boot vor der Küste von Durban geendet 🐟🫣
Ach ja – wir haben wahrscheinlich die größte „fried seafood platter“ aller Zeiten gegessen … und nein, gut geschlafen haben wir danach definitiv nicht. War es das wert 🤔? 100 %ig 😁
Wir sind mit vollen Herzen (und Bäuchen) weitergezogen – bis zum nächsten Mal!

Golden days in Royal Natal National Park
Breathtaking views, endless hiking in amazing scenery, and the chilliest nights under the stars – the Drakensberg mountains have truly stolen our hearts!

Another highlight: our very first table tennis match on African soil 🏓 – at (campsite, working farm, and absolute gem – highly recommended! 🫶)

Goldene Tage im Royal-Natal-Nationalpark
Atemberaubende Landschaften, endlose Wanderungen und die kältesten Nächte unter dem Sternenhimmel – die Drakensberge haben unser Herz erobert!

Ein weiteres Highlight: unser allererstes Tischtennismatch auf afrikanischem Boden 🏓 – stattgefunden (Farm und sehr toller Campingplatz – Empfehlung ! 🫶)

🌍 From Austria to the southern tip of Africa — this road trip has truly been the adventure of a lifetime. Now, with less than a month left, we find it hard to believe we’re in the final stretch. But it’s not over yet — there’s still so much to do, see, and savor here in beautiful South Africa. ❤️
