This is very exciting but still so much to be done, we all need to keep reminding the council and governments - That this road has not even been started to be fixed nor has Summersville Road.
Stay safe

The amount of phone calls I get daily asking is the road open, Can I take a horse Trailor/Caravan on Summersville Rd ect is crazy !! and then on the other hand I get customers ringing for a job who do not know that Waterfall Way is still closed
This topic is already starting to disappear from everyone's thoughts who does not live or work along The beautiful Waterfall Way.
Lets not let this traction stop we need to keep hounding the council and government departments, this is STILL effecting so many, please help keep this relevant

A number of people have contacted me seeking information regarding current work being done at Gordonville Cutting.

The following is current information:

Gordonville Cutting – Vegetation and Slope Works

• The Local Aboriginal Land Council has provided Transport for NSW with in-principle approval to progress vegetation removal at the top of the cutting.
• Vegetation removal works have now commenced across an area of approximately 150m x 30m.
• The purpose of these works is to create access for machinery to facilitate further scaling activities and support benching works as part of the potential permanent repair solution.
• Rope access contractors are working to dislodge unstable rock columns, assisted by excavators onsite.

Summervilles Road – Alternate Route

• A road safety audit has progressed following the inception meeting between Transport for NSW and Council staff.
• Audit findings are expected early next week.
• CCTV installation is planned at both ends of Summervilles Road to monitor and manage heavy vehicle movements.

Community Information and Reporting

• Community complaints regarding improper use (size of load etc) of Summervilles Road should be reported directly to Council to allow investigation and follow-up. Dangerous driving cases should continue to be reported to Police on 131444.

I hope that sheds a bit of light for those who have requested it.

As we all know, recently we have endured 5 years of repeated closures on our mountain route due to various natural disasters (as we have summarised in this timeline). We are appealing to our officials to hear our voice and take some action to help us create a community that is resilient, connected, and flourishing.

As your local Chamber, we have been advocating for better communication regarding closures, and funding to ensure safe access for our community.

We also encourage you to share how this has impacted you! Please comment below or email us directly at [email protected]

This information will help us develop an impact statement that will better represent our community as a whole.

Feel free to share across your networks so that we can gather a more robust response.

You can also contact your local officials directly using the information in this link.

long term planning is exactly that - long term !!
please widen, seal and put lights at the river crossing on Sommerville Rd so the community has a safe road to travel on short term while you find that long term solution!!
Businesses are struggling, people are missing specialist medical appointments and personally the mental strain on trying to keep a small business running not knowing what tomorrow will bring is not only frustrating but a continuous stress with 5 landslides in 12 months and still no safe back road to travel
Action is needed now

Another accident today on Sommerville Road, This is purely to ask people to be careful - This is 3 days in a row that vehicles have either slide of the road or crashed - If you are not a confident driver who can hug the side of a muddy road while breathing in to make you and your vehicle smaller, then please use an alternative route

This is the current state of Somerville Road, the backup road that locals, emergency vehicles and essential workers/vehicles are being advised to use every time Dorrigo Mountain has a landslide and it’s closed. The last 4years there has been talk of upgrading this road so that is actually SAFE to use.
This has not happened , and to make things even more incredibly disappointing and dangerous there are still caravans, campers and trailers and small trucks travelling on this road
I know the road is open to up to 10t vehicles, but you would think the council would at least put people either end of this road stopping those wider vehicles going through because there simply isn’t enough room on some of the stretch of road.

Accountability & lack of care once the Mountain has been cleared, is continuous.
Action towards funding and production on making this road safe needs to be taken
Compensation needs to be given to those who have had to cancel their medical appointments, lose Work, loss of income on farming / harvesting sales, damages to vehicles on these roads that aren’t suitable for the amount of traffic that is being pushed down them.

We are all feed up and now is the time to all stand together and say THIS IS ENOUGH!
Send emails, write letters, voice your opinion on radio stations we need to get the word out there

Stay safe
Don’t drive if you don’t have to and please be mindful and caring towards others travelling on this road

Due to the landslide, poor conditions of back roads and no idea of when the mountain will be open - we will be closed for the next few days
Thank you for your understanding
