Textiles, locally produced perfumes, homewares, condiments and kitchenware are all available in a location right by Tokyo Station. Perfect to spend the last few hours before catching the Narita Express, or heading to Haneda airport.

A visit to Japan isn't complete without a visit to a shrine for Omamori.......
Charms that offer protections and blessings across everything from study and career, to health, business, and wealth, are sold at temple shops, with each temple specialising in key areas.

At some, one can wash a banknote to keep in the wallet for good fortune, at others, spirits associated with the area offer protection against illness, bad spirits or luck.

Tokyo delivers endless astonishing moments.......
Most can only be found there.....

Under Tokyo Station is Character Street. One of the best places to quickly pick up a few souvenirs featuring your favourite Japanese characters. From Hello Kitty to Ultraman, there's merch galore.

The WPWP popup was one of those astonishing wow moments that you can find everywhere in Tokyo. Cute characters based on convenience store staples, the store included typical cigarette merchandising. While there were no to***co based characters, Australia's marketing rules wouldn't allow toys for kids to be sold anywhere near anything remotely smoke related! Just mad!

🇯🇵 This may be the best value Kaiseki in Tokyo.....
Set course menus are common in Japanese restaurants, especially traditional Kaiseki venues. A fine dining style consisting of a range of many small finely crafted dishes, Kaiseki is Japan's version of haute cuisine.

Often high end restaurants offer special sets at lunch time, and oustanding value can be had by having a special meal during the day. With traditional Japanese food not typically being overly rich, afternoon food comas aren't a problem!

Suiren at Tokyo Midtown serves first class Kaiseki and offers outstanding value, both at lunch and dinner sittings.

Komatsuya sells top shelf Japanese beef, prepared Italian style as part of its classic Italian menu.

Select your steak from the butcher style display at the front, and take a seat for the classic Italian hospitality and menu.

Japanese chefs and restaurants deliver some of the best dining in any category in the world, so Italian, French, Mexican and more should be on your radar, as well as traditional local styles.

We had a 365gm Black Wagyu steak for less than Au$60! This steak at home would be $200 at any decent steak house at home. Paired with other classic Italian dishes, and a glass or two of Italian w**e, is a great way to experience top Japanese beef.

🧂🎌 Some of the best experiences aren't planned....
When visiting Tokyo Skytree, we came across this beautiful store selling flavoured salts.
They offer around an hour long experience where you get to taste different raw and infused salts and make your own blend. It's a fascinating journey for any food lover.
Book a timeslot before you go up the tower to avoid waiting.

A must do experience which is both fun, and educational. And you get a unique souvenir and a great story!

🍢🍺 Is this the FUNNEST way to eat in Japan.....?
After work drinks or catching up with friends?
Chances are you're going to a Yokocho.
Tiny bars packed together.
Six stools, one grill. Small speciality dishes, perfected over decades.
This is where friends meet to catch up and share a bite.
Careers are made here. Boss and junior, elbow to elbow over plate of yakitori for nomikai, or after work drinks.
You move through the counters choosing a dish here and a drink there.
Every city, no matter how small, has at least one. Worth seeking out on your trip to Japan.

🚇 🇯🇵 Best entrance for the Narita Exp. at Tokyo Stn. ...
Just left from the centre of the original Tokyo Station building is the Maranouchi Central Entrance. Enter here, and follow the directions in this reel for the most direct and quickest access to the Narita Express ticket machines and platform.

Another hot tip..... The locker machines down near the Narita Express platforms are often free when the others throughout this huge station are full! You can also use Bounce, an app like Uber for luggage storage.

Tokyo's kitchenware district hides a secret...
Kappabashi Dori is named for the Kappa, a mischievous water spirit who serves as a tale all over Japan to keep children away from dangerous waterways.
Spill the water from the bowl on his head, and he freezes, or.... offer a cucumber with your family name on it for protection.

Kappabashi is a must visit for any chef or keen home cook. Everything from restaurant equipment, to fine ceramics is available, and most at industry prices.
