Moringa is currently not legally permitted to be sold as a food or dietary supplement in Australia. Following a safety assessment, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) rejected an application to approve it as a novel food.

Key details on its legal status include:
Retail Ban: It cannot be sold in retail stores or online as a food, powder, or tea.

Import Restrictions: Any imports containing Moringa oleifera are failed at the border and will be destroyed.

Personal Use: It is perfectly legal to grow a Moringa tree in your own backyard and consume the leaves privately.

Medicinal Exemption: While it cannot be sold as a "food," some companies still legally offer it as a TGA-listed complementary medicine (e.g., in capsule form) because therapeutic goods are regulated separately.
