🎉 We have officially launched our brand-new website (plus upcoming tournaments)! 🎊

Here you can sign up for a membership, find information about upcoming events, sign up for tournaments, and find results of previous events! 🗓️

As it happens, we have three (!) tournaments coming up in October, one for blitz, rapid, and classical. As always, members receive a discounted entry fee, and anybody who signs up for all three events can do so with a discount as well.

Due to the EKKA Public Holiday on Wednesday, there will not be a chess meeting this week. Meetings will resume at the regular location and time from next week.

Just a reminder that our weekly meetings have resumed for the semester! We will be meeting from 5pm every Wednesday for casual chess games.

🗓️ Weekly casual chess meetings start tomorrow!♟️

Our weekly meetings will be resuming every Wednesday from 5pm onwards, located in Forgan Smith East, room E107.

As always, players of all skill levels and experience are invited to join. We're excited to see you there!

🎉 UQ Chess Club will be at Market Day on the 22nd of July, from 10:00am to 2:00pm! ♟️

Come by our stall for some casual games, to chat with our members, and to learn more about the club/upcoming events. Our stall will be located in the Hobby/Interest section, number 39.

Ticket prices: $10 (Members), $15 (Non-members) 

Tournament Format 
Time control: Rapid (10+5) Swiss tournament (7 rounds)
Prizes: $200 prize pool, will be divided among rating groups based on participant numbers (best performer in each rating group will receive a prize)
Rating groups: Beginner (Under 1100), Intermediate (1100-1599), Advanced (1600+)

♟️The UQ Chess Club is excited to invite you to play in the UQ 2026 FIDE Winter Weekender, a classical tournament on the 20th and 21st of June! 🕰️

This 6-round, 60 | 30 tournament is a perfect opportunity to gain some FIDE points before the Gold Coast Open in July☀️🌊. We are also happy to announce that this tournament is included in the 2026 CAQ Grand Prix, a circuit of events throughout the year in which players can earn points towards winning large cash prizes! ♟️ No meeting this week!

Now that exam season has commenced, UQ Chess Club won't be meeting until next semester. Keep an eye out for us at Market Day in July, and for an upcoming classical tournament later this month 👀.

🎉 Chess meetings are re-continuing today!

We're happy to report that we've been able to recover our sets, so our weekly meetings will continue today at 6pm, Forgan Smith (Law Library) room 332.

Apologies again to those who were affected by the sudden cancellation last week, and we hope to see many of you there today!
