FNQ Chapter 34 Sport Aircraft Association of Australia

FNQ Chapter 34 Sport Aircraft Association of Australia The Sport Aircraft Association of Australia Inc. had its beginnings in 1956 when a group of aviation

This organisation, known as the Ultra Light Aircraft Association of Australia, grew in numbers and expanded its interest to all aspects of powered sport aviation. In the mid 1970's, with the advent of the Ultra light movement, it was decided to restructure and change the name of the association to Sport Aircraft Association of Australia (SAAA). The new name was more representative of the broader r

ange of aviation interests of its members. In the late 1980's, discussions took place with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) resulting in the SAAA undertaking the self administration of CAO 101.28 category aircraft (amateur-built aircraft). With further work we have now managed to move on from the limitations of 101-28 and have considerably broadened the freedoms available to builders. The Experimental category is now with us and our members have used the freedoms to put more than 600 new aircraft on the Australian register. SAAA members are the largest "supplier" of new aircraft in the Australian Aviation community.
