This is from a Tasmanian news site, but this same thing happened to me last year.

I used to use the Ampol app to pay for fuel. That all changed when I was accused by the console operator at Ampol Toormina of stealing petrol. Even so much as exiting the store by saying “Once you’ve finished filling up, you can pay for the petrol that you didn’t pay for yesterday”

I immediately took offence at that suggestion and I told her I would prove her wrong. Even after showing her evidence that I had indeed paid for the fuel by way of a tax invoice I received by email, she refused to apologise and continued with the line “well, you drove off.”

I get that stealing fuel is a major problem, but let’s get a few facts straight.

* Being a local business operator and someone who WAS a regular customer, I am the very last person to do the wrong thing by a business. In particular that business.

* I have never stolen anything from a business, big or small.

* If I was to steal petrol, I wouldn’t do it in a vehicle emblazoned with a company logo. I would do it in my own private vehicle in a far-flung town that I am never likely to visit again.

The fact that neither Ampol Toormina, the console operator at that outlet have not ever apologised, and the usual automatically generated corporate BS from Ampol corporate of “we apologise for your experience and this has been handled internally”, which means zero has been done, is extremely disappointing.

I haven’t been back to Ampol Toormina ever since. If anyone else has been falsely accused of stealing petrol from either Ampol or any fuel retailer that uses an app, I’d like to hear from you.

Ampol’s app allows customers to pay for fuel without entering the store…

Just over $6k to renew my CTP and registration for the taxi. If you want to know why people are leaving the industry, this is why. Uber drivers, who I would argue are taking on the same risk as us, don’t pay as much. The system must be made fairer for all.
