My name is Jodie and I have been a qualified child restraint installer and adviser since February 2011. I trained with the Australian Child Restraint Resource Initiative and update my registration each year. I originally became interested in child car safety during my time as a babysitter. I had purchased a 20 year old op shop seat, and a 10 year old eBay seat to transport other people's precious babies. I began researching car seats as the age of the children changed and I needed different seats, and was horrified to read of all the things I had been doing wrong. I decided to take a course (the ACRI course) to improve my knowledge an also help parents ensure their children are safe in their own cars. So many people are unaware that what they are doing things that could put their babies at risk.

70% of child restraints are installed or used incorrectly. This can be something as easy to miss as a twisted strap, or a severe error such as not attaching the essential tether strap. I provide FREE checks, and will only charge an installation fee if adjustments need to be made. I keep my prices low so its an affordable service to everyone. I am a registered business and have an ABN. CHILD RESTRAINT LAWS - bear in mind these are an absolute minimum, it's best to leave your child in their restraint until they physically outgrow it.

~ A child under six months of age to travel in a rearward facing approved child restraint (the RECOMMENDATION is to leave rear-facing until at least 12 months).
~ A child aged six months to under 4 years to travel in either a rearward facing OR forward facing approved child restraint. The type of restraint will depend on the child’s size (the RECOMMENDATION is to keep a child harnessed until they physically don't fit. There are restraints available that can harness an average 6yo).
~ A child aged 4 years to under 7 years to travel in either a forward facing approved child restraint with an inbuilt harness, or an approved booster seat. The type of restraint will depend on the child’s size (the RECOMMENDATION is to keep a child in their booster until they pass the 5-step-test. This is usually when they are 140cms tall).
~ A child aged 7 years to under 16 years to travel in either an approved booster seat or an adult seatbelt. The type of restraint will depend on the child’s size.
~ A person 16 years and over to travel in an adult seatbelt.

Millennials, who remembers sitting in one of these?

If you grew up in Australia in the 90s, this was your version of car safety - essentially a block of raw packaging styrofoam with a thin cover (usually featuring Bananas in Pyjamas 🍌😂)

These seats offered zero modern side-impact or head protection which is why they were officially written out of the AS/NZS 1754 Australian Standard in 2010. That was the year Australia completely banned booster cushions and shifted from weight limited seats to the height based seats we used today.

It's wild to me that we just slid around in the back of a Falcon or Commodore on glorified packaging foam 💀🤣

Install appointments for October are now available to book via my website.

PRAM CLEANS are now BOOKED OUT UNTIL 2027!

I have added a couple of dates of evening install appointments to trial how I go with opening after kid bedtime during daylight savings.

REMINDER that I'm closed the last week of October and the start of November, reopening around the 12th of November.

If you're planning an install for a baby due in November or December I'd recommend grabbing one of these October appointments as we all know how busy December gets!

From today, I can no longer add the small surcharge to transactions that are made via card payment.

I would appreciate bank transfer or cash payments moving forward. I can still accommodate card payments, but if I do as many as I did last financial year, I'll be absorbing hundreds of dollars of fees 💸

All payments are entered in my system the same way and every service is provided with a receipt 🧾 Thank you!!

PLEASE get your car seats installed or checked over - don't MacGuyver something to hold it tight! The tether of this seat was also tied in a knot.

Seatbelts, harnesses and isofix straps should NEVER be twisted or knotted.

New RBA rules mean businesses can no longer add card surcharges.

Up until now, if you paid by card, a 2.2% fee was added on top to cover that cost. From October, I'm not allowed to charge that anymore, so I'll be absorbing it myself, which adds up to hundreds of dollars a year 💸

Card payment is still ok if that's what works for you. But if you're able to pay by cash or bank transfer instead, it avoids me having to cover the fee. I have my bank details/PayID easily accessible at the time of appointments.

All types of payments are reported in my system the same way and a receipt is always provided 🧾

Newborns don't always need the lowest harness/headrest setting on their capsule or car seat. Make sure you adjust it to fit properly before their first drive 🚗
