💰 If you’ve booked in the last week or two — I definitely haven’t forgotten you! I’ve just had so many of you throwing money at me that receipting payments and paying suppliers has practically become a full-time job. 😂

🏝️ Family holidays
🐘 African safaris…

🌟 LET’S GET BEHIND BRON! 🌟

I couldn’t be more proud of my beautiful friend and fellow TravelManager Bron Dascombe❤️✈️
(Even though she’s from QLD & prefers Samsung 🙄😂)

Bron actually did her TravelManagers induction with me, so watching what she has gone on to achieve makes this one extra special.

Last week at our TravelManagers Australia National Conference in Hobart, Bron absolutely smashed it — taking home an incredible FOUR top sales awards! 🏆🏆🏆🏆

Now she has the opportunity to be recognised where it matters just as much — in her own local Maranoa community.

Bron has been nominated in the 2026 Maranoa Business Awards for:

✈️ Individual Customer Service Award — Bronwen
✈️ Business Customer Service Award — Bronwen & Nikki

Those of us within TravelManagers already know what an incredible ambassador Bron is for our network. She works bloody hard, genuinely cares about her clients and represents exactly what great local, personal customer service should look like.

To win four national sales awards is an amazing achievement — but to then be recognised by the community you live and work in says so much about the business and relationships Bron has built.

Maranoa should be incredibly proud to have her representing the region — and I reckon we should all get behind her! ❤️

🗳️ PLEASE VOTE FOR BRON HERE:

It only takes a moment, and I know every vote will mean the world to them.

So proud of you Bron — from induction buddies to watching you walk away with FOUR awards in Hobart. What a superstar! 🌟✈️🏆

I’ve read a lot of stories about this & there are quite a few comments saying this “isn’t extraordinary” because it happens all the time 🙄
Well I think it is!

It was extraordinary mainly because it happened in the depths of Antarctica when normal aviation operations are largely shut down, rather than because an A319 had never landed at McMurdo before 🇦🇶

The Skytraders Airbus A319, Snowbird 1, left Hobart at 2:44am on 31 July 2026, flew roughly 5½ hours south & landed at McMurdo in complete darkness & temperatures reportedly down to –43°C. They had only a narrow window in which the weather, winds, visibility, runway condition & aircraft performance all had to line up. If the weather deteriorated too quickly, there aren’t convenient alternate airports nearby to divert to 🛬

What makes that especially remarkable is:
🌟 Antarctica is effectively closed for normal aviation in winter. Australia’s own Wilkins Aerodrome is normally operational only around 4–5 months over summer & had been decommissioned for winter after the final flight on 6 March.
🌟 They were landing a wheeled Airbus on an Antarctic runway in darkness, not a ski-equipped bush aircraft. Antarctic aviation also has hazards that automated weather instruments can’t adequately report, including blowing snow, poor surface contrast, loss of horizon definition, ice crystals & freezing fog.
🌟–43°C is close to the limits at which even specialised aircraft operations become extremely difficult. Fuel, hydraulics, tyres, batteries & ground equipment all have to function, while crews have to work outside safely.
🌟 There was very little margin for error. The crew waited after their first attempt was stopped by severe weather, then launched when a sufficiently good window appeared. They had to get in, transfer the patient & get back out before the weather closed again.
🌟 A whole Antarctic operation had to be activated for one person. Pilots, meteorologists, medical teams, flight planners & McMurdo’s winter runway/ground crew all had to coordinate despite being well outside the normal flying season.

Perhaps the best way of putting it is that flying Hobart–Antarctica in an A319 isn’t itself unusual; doing it at the end of July is. The Australian Antarctic Program’s 2026–27 schedule doesn’t resume regular A319 operations to McMurdo until 20 October 🗓️

And there’s an interesting precedent:
🌟 Australia & Skytraders carried out another midwinter McMurdo medical evacuation in August 2012. Even then, the AAD described the tiny amount of available light as giving them a very fine operating window.
🌟 A March 2020 evacuation was considered unusual because most Antarctic nations had already shut down for winter & that was only March, compared with 31 July for this mission.

So “extraordinary” isn’t really journalistic hype here. Taking a commercial-derived jet thousands of kilometres across the Southern Ocean, landing on Antarctic ice in darkness at around –43°C, conducting a medical evacuation AND getting airborne again before the weather deteriorated is a seriously specialised piece of aviation 🤩

🗺️ And a pretty impressive Hobart/Tasmania connection, too! Snowbird 1 & its specialist Antarctic operation are based out of Hobart 🙌
