PLAY-FULL. I want to be full of play. It makes me feel good. It's one of my favourite feelings. How playful are you? A year ago I decided I needed more playfulness in my life. And now I feel I want even more of it. Until I'm full of it.

I bought a sewing machine! 3 weeks ago, I went to a great exhibition in Adelaide (I'm in Australia atm!) called where I met two wonderful artists and . I asked each of them separately if I could invite them for a coffee to hear about their lives as artists, and I'm so glad I did. My cup was filled. What did I come out of it with? Well, that I should sit for a few minutes a day and work on something, with LOW expectations. (the second part changed everything mentally).

And right now what excites me the most is TEXTILE, so, I bought a sewing machine! For the last week, I've been practicing everyday, sometimes for 2 hours, sometimes for 10 minutes.

I went for a walk in the bush on Monday morning just out of Adelaide and got a little obsessed with the Eucalyptus bark colours and shapes. I thought it would be awesome to try and replicate them out of textiles. So there you go!

Thank you Tristan and Sue for the spark of freshness! 🌞

Much love from me and my sewing machine xx

Sometimes we just need to take our time, don’t we. That’s what I have been practicing, to take the time I need to get creatively ready. And it’s taking me much longer than I thought.

I’ve been learning new skill actually - Ableton - music making. I’ve been playing with fashion lots, wearing lots of colours, on my clothes, on my skin. It’s been so soooo fun. I love it. I also did a sewing class this weekend. I’m so excited to be playing with the sewing machine now! I’d like to post a few little tests as I work on them, whether they are audio, photo, textile. Maybe even glitter. I don’t know. I want to use this grid as a playground, put less pressure on myself to be only posting finished, beautiful work. Maybe I could share with you some of my previous work as well, pre-Wāhine, if you’re interested? I’ll leave you with this one, to start the playground.
Much love, Loren.

As the Wāhine Exhibition was coming to an end, and after some reflection time on each kōrero, there was one thing that was common to each interview I shared with each wahine: the crucial role their māmā played in the life.

For the exhibition's final showing, I edited together this piece to celebrate our mothers. You will hear snippets from each wahine talking about their mums accompanied by a photo of her. We had the video projected on the ceiling (you might have seen some photos of people looking cozy on the floor in the previous post) and it was a very emotional audience I witnessed...

Here is the link for you: https://youtu.be/ip5YH2Ypsss

I hope this piece speaks to you!
Ngā mihi,

It's time to go home ❤️ After months of thinking about what will happen to the portraits once the exhibition is finished, the answer feels so simple and obvious: they need to go home. I know each whānau will be excited to hang them. They have been seen by thousands of people, for thousands of hours.
Everything costs money, and sending the portraits home all around Aotearoa means they need to be securely packaged and sent - about $130/portrait. These three portraits, Hinewai, Ngamoni and Panache are flying away this week thanks to two beautiful women Elizabeth and Alexandra, who visited the exhibition last week and so kindly offered to pay for their shipping.

I am excited for each wahine to receive her portrait, and hang it at home or give it to someone in her family. It feels so right.

It was emotional to let them go, but it's part of the process. Fly home beautiful wāhine ❤️ you will always be in my heart.

A few of my favourite shots from last night's opening. It was incredible. So much, so so much aroha in the room. My goodness my heart was so full! Thank you for coming, for celebrating this moment with me. It was so nice to see all your smiling faces.
I am in the exhibition today Saturday until 7pm and tomorrow Sunday 10am-7pm.

Te Mana Hā will be coming around 6.30pm on Sunday with some beautiful waiata to bless the space one last time before I take it down. Join us if you are around!
The projection will be on both nights around 6pm - it's a celebration of our mothers (the first photo is with my beautiful mum who is here with me now ❤️), and based on the tears and smiles from last night's screening, you should enjoy it too. AND! You get to lie down on the floor to enjoy it projected on the ceiling!
Have a wonderful weekend, you know where to find me!
Loren xx

WE HAVE A DATE! Wāhine's last showing will open on Friday the 11th of August at 5.30PM and then will stay open for the weekend on the 12/13 August. It feels pretty surreal, but also exciting! I am working on a special screening which will be projected each of the three nights at 6.30PM!

Where: Earth Hub - 235 Haven Road Nelson.

I hope to see you there my friends ❤️

Today marks the last day of Wāhine on the North Island. I am making my way to Rotorua now, and will be dismounting the exhibition all day tomorrow. A bit of a weird feeling, but not quite the end as I will be installing it one last time in Whakatū Nelson in August. If you have made it to Rotorua and saw Wāhine, I hope you had a great moment there 🙏🏽 see you soon Whakarewarewa!
