It’s time to talk about dementia.

A diagnosis of dementia does not take away someone’s personality, their history, their relationships or their need to feel included.

For many people, giving up driving can also mean losing some of their independence. It can become harder to attend appointments, visit friends, go shopping or simply remain part of the community they know and love.

At Driving Miss Daisy, we believe giving up driving should never mean giving up living.

We provide more than a trip from one place to another. We offer time, patience, companionship and support, helping our clients continue doing the things that matter to them.

This September, let’s talk more openly about dementia, listen to people living with dementia and make sure they remain seen, respected and connected.

You know you have the best clients when they share your sense of humour!

One of our lovely clients, Michelle, bought this colourful wig and thought it would be hilarious to have Ben wear it while driving around town.

She was right. 😂🌈

At Driving Miss Daisy, we understand that every journey is about so much more than getting from A to B. Sometimes the important thing is sharing the laughs along the way.

We really do have the best clients! 🌼🚙🌼

I was so sad to wake up this morning to the news that Dolly Parton had died.

Her music was part of the soundtrack of my life. It takes me back to childhood, family road trips, singing along in the car and those good old days that somehow feel a little closer whenever you hear a familiar song.

But Dolly was so much more than her music. She was funny, wise, generous and an incredible philanthropist who used her success to make life better for others, particularly children. What a wonderful legacy to leave behind.

It is amazing how music can transport us straight back to a particular time, place or person.

What song or artist takes you back to the good old days?

Rest peacefully, Dolly. Your music will always take so many of us home. 🤍

Want a trip down memory lane…

Strathalbyn Heritage Museum is worth a look. See it how it was and then step out and see it as it is. So much is still there. 🤩

This photograph, taken in 1915, captures the Victoria Hotel in Strathalbyn, built in 1865.
Thanks to the skill and dedication of one of our volunteers, the image has been carefully restored and colourised, bringing new life to a scene first recorded more than 110 years ago.

The Strathalbyn Museum holds thousands of documents, photographs, and artifacts that tell the unique story of our region — from everyday life to the landmark moments that shaped our town.

We’ll be sharing more restored images from our collection over the coming weeks — follow the Museum page to see what’s coming next as we continue uncovering the stories held in our archives.

Preserving our past is a community effort, and we’re proud to share these glimpses into Strathalbyn’s early days.

I love our town and our community because of the small businesses that bring it to life. Our cafés, mechanics, butchers, tradies, retailers, farmers, health professionals and service providers all help make this a wonderful place to live and work.

Running a small business is so much more than a nine-to-five job. It takes guts, long days, sleepless nights and time away from family. For many, it means putting their savings, their homes and their financial security on the line because they believe in what they are building.

Behind every local business is someone trying to solve a problem, meet a need or create something our community values. They employ local people, support local families and give so much back to our town.

We see the shopfronts, products and services, but we do not always see the risk, sacrifice and determination behind them.

This Small Business Week, let’s celebrate the people who keep showing up, backing themselves and trying their hardest to build something worthwhile. Our town would not be the same without them.

Support our locals doing what they can to make our local community be a better place to live.

Thank you to all those small businesses in our community sacrificing time with family and doing the hard bits that no one sees.

What’s one thing you never want to stop being able to do? 🌼

Staying independent means different things to everyone. 💙

For some, it’s being able to meet a friend for coffee. ☕
For others, it’s doing their own shopping, getting to the hairdresser, visiting family, going to appointments or simply heading out for a drive.

At Driving Miss Daisy Mount Barker, we love helping people keep doing the everyday things that make life feel like their life.

So we’d love to know…

What’s one thing you never want to stop being able to do? 🌼

Is it coffee with friends? Gardening? Shopping? Seeing the grandkids? Going to the footy? Or something completely different?

Tell us in the comments. We’d love to hear what matters to you. 💙

Happy Birthday to the main man, Ben! 🎉

If you see him around today, make sure you wish him a very happy birthday. He is still out driving today. So you may see him.

Hope he has a fantastic day! 🎂🥳

Check out this for a review…

I have to give Helen 20 stars out of 10.

He required support travelling to the airport to catch a flight when delays and disruption made the experience far more difficult than expected. Helen was absolutely terrific. She stayed with him, supported him through the delays and made sure he was safe and comfortable.

Her kindness, patience and genuine care made an enormous difference during what could have been a very stressful day. I cannot thank her enough.

I will recommend Driving Miss Daisy as much as I can.

Helen was almost, just almost, as good as Ben! 😂😂😂

Made my day, thanks Mike. 💙🚙🌼
