Date Ideas From Your Neighbourhood Cupid

Attention, love-struck Sydneysiders! Do you look forward to wrapping up the year with your partner? Are you frantically searching for a romantic date plan? Your friendly neighbourhood cupid is here to help you out! From a simple early morning jogging date to a fancy dinner date on one of the NYE cruises, the possibilities are endless. In this blog, I will explore four beautiful New Year’s date ideas for the couples of my favourite city. Do not worry, I have something for all.

For the fitness couples

I propose this idea to all the fitness freaks. Hit the gym. Work out together and see how it works out. This might not sound ‘romantic’ in the typical sense, but hear me out. Create a fitness challenge for the day. Set goals, such as completing a certain number of push-ups, squats, or laps. Encourage and motivate each other to push harder and celebrate your achievements together. Helping your partner surpass their limits and being each other’s cheerleaders will surely strengthen your bond.

If not the gym, go for a jog in the Royal Botanical Garden. Explore nature trails, enjoy scenic views, and challenge yourselves physically while spending quality time together. Step into the next year as a couple with healthy minds and bodies. Afterwards, grab something wholesome to eat.

For the couples looking for a traditional New Year’s date

Does your idea of a perfect New Year’s date include a romantic dinner date, watching the fireworks, and kissing your love when the clock strikes midnight? Find yourselves aboard one of the finest New Years Eve dinner cruises and have the best time with your partner. Relish a wonderful dinner as you take in the stunning harbour sights. There is no better place to watch a million fireworks unfurl in the sky. Squeal with delight when the Sydney Harbour Bridge proudly presents the ‘Bridge Effects’ of the new year. As the sky lights up with a kaleidoscope of colours, embrace your partner and share a tender kiss. Let the collective joy and cheer of the occasion surround you as you create cherished memories together!

For the beach babies

All the beach-loving couples, come this way! If y’all want a coastal celebration to wrap up the year, head to one of the spectacular beaches of Sydney. From Bondi beach to Watsons Bay, a number of beaches host vibrant parties. Indulge in the energetic atmosphere, fantastic live entertainment, and mouth watering food stalls. Dance under the stars with a festive-spirited crowd. As the midnight nears, find a cosy spot and snuggle with your partner to watch the breathtaking fireworks lighting up the sky. A celebration at the beach is a guaranteed spot to create the most romantic New Year.
Welcome the first day of the New Year by taking a refreshing dip together in the sea. Embrace each other as you embrace the serenity of the waters. Let the beginning of your New Year be as rejuvenating as ever for the pair of you. So, gather your beach essentials, and head to one of Sydney's beautiful beaches to celebrate New Year's Eve in true beach-baby style.

For the couples who want to keep it low-key

Couples seeking a cosy and intimate New Year's Eve celebration, there's no need to venture far from the comfort of your own home! Create a special and memorable date night right where you are.

Plan a ‘cooking date’! Pick a dish that both of you absolutely adore or explore something new altogether. Savour the food you made together and let your stomachs and hearts be filled with love. After the dinner, engage in some quality time with a board game or a shared activity. Make sure you also curate a list of the songs that mean something to you beforehand. Dance to your favourite tunes in your own private space. As midnight approaches, open a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine to raise a toast to your wonderful future. Say cheers to all the adventures, love, and happiness that awaits both of you in the coming year.

Wherever and however you spend the New Year’s Eve, the only thing that you should emphasise on is cherishing each other's company as you welcome the new year with open hearts and a shared vision for the future.

Capture Best NYE Moments in Sydney

Welcome aboard, as a professional photographer who has had the pleasure of capturing stunning moments onboard one of the New Year cruises in Sydney last year, I'm here to share some valuable tips to help you make the most of your photography experience on an NYE cruise. I've been fortunate enough to capture extraordinary moments around the world, but this experience was something truly magical.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, these tips will help you capture incredible memories that will last a lifetime. Come on, grab your camera and find yourself a comfortable spot on the deck!

Arrive Early and Scout the Location

To ensure you secure the best spot on the cruise, arrive early and familiarise yourself with the surroundings. Scope out the different vantage points and find the perfect spot that will give you an unobstructed view of Sydney's iconic fireworks. Experiment with different angles and compositions to make your shots unique.

Embrace the Spirit of the Event

Capture the true spirit of the New Year’s Eve celebrations. As a photographer, it's essential to immerse yourself in the festivities and capture the contagious joy of the crowd. People will be dressed to the nines, exuding excitement, and ready to welcome the new year with open arms. Candid shots of revellers dancing, toasting, and enjoying themselves will be cherished forever.

Master Low-Light Photography

New Year's Eve is synonymous with stunning fireworks displays, and your camera will be itching to capture those breathtaking bursts of colour against the midnight sky. However, low-light conditions can be challenging. To excel in this realm, adjust your camera settings beforehand. Opt for a wider aperture, a slower shutter speed, and higher ISO to allow more light into your shots. Experiment with long exposures to capture the trails of light left by fireworks. A sturdy tripod will be your best friend for those perfectly steady shots.

Seek Unique Perspectives

While fireworks make for fantastic subjects, don't limit yourself to the obvious shots. Move around the cruising vessel to discover different vantage points and perspectives. Capture the majestic silhouette of the vessel against the backdrop of fireworks. Alternatively, venture to the top deck to capture a wide-angle shot encompassing the grandeur of the entire scene. Play with framing and composition to create visually striking images that stand out from the rest.

Incorporate the Surroundings

Don't forget to capture the ambience and the atmosphere on board the cruise. Photograph the excited faces, the beautifully lit iconic attractions and the sparkling city skyline. These shots will add depth and variety to your collection and help you tell a more complete story of the NYE experience.

Capture Candid Moments

While fireworks and decorations are undoubtedly captivating, focus on the people who bring the party to life. Engage with your fellow passengers, and with their permission, snap candid shots that reveal their genuine emotions and interactions. Whether it's friends huddled together, couples stealing a kiss at midnight, or families sharing laughter, these unscripted moments are what truly capture the essence of the cruise and will make your photographs come alive.

Sydney New Year's Eve cruises provide breathtaking backdrops on the harbour for capturing memories and creating awe-inspiring photographs. By arriving early, experimenting with settings, focusing on composition, being open to candid shots, capturing the atmosphere, and editing your images, you'll be well on your way to preserving these cherished moments in visual form. So, embark on that memorable NYE cruise, let your creativity flow, and seize the opportunity to capture the magic of Sydney's fireworks extravaganza in your photographs.

Get out there, embrace the magic of the night, and let your creativity soar! Happy shooting and have a fantastic NYE cruise in Sydney!

My 2022 Mid-Year Review - Cruising Through The BluesWhen the year ends, there are two types of people: those who set new...

My 2022 Mid-Year Review - Cruising Through The Blues

When the year ends, there are two types of people: those who set new goals and aim to turn their lives around; and those who stay consistent and never give up their goals to begin with. The first group is most often the majority, as discipline is something to be mastered. The second group usually has the discipline to slowly but surely achieve what they set out to do. Which group do you fall into?

Now that we’ve hit the halfway line of 2022, the last six months seem quite a blur. Life has passed us by faster than ever. How about we slow things down and look into ourselves; process what’s been going on, and how it did or didn’t turn out the way we had planned.

Taking stock of my year so far

My 2022 kicked off to a great start thanks to the New Year cruises on Sydney Harbour. It was one of my bucket-list activities for some time now and ticking it off was an excellent way to start the year. Now, the purpose of a yearly recap is not to sugarcoat reality and impress others. It’s about being brutally honest so that you can gain insights into your current circumstances, and in turn, work on a plan for the future.

Now, I’m not going to start off and reflect on every month. That’ll be a bit tedious and I look forward to reflecting freely, not bound by any predetermined standards. As I mentioned above, I started the year on a high, and ended the last day of 2021 aboard one of Sydney’s popular catamaran New Year’s Eve cruises. It was a core-memory moment as my family and I witnessed the incredible fireworks display that graced the harbour skies. It was a night of extravagance; followed with food and drinks that were out of this world. In fact, it was so good that I might actually go back just for the food!

Resolution to the rescue

Like every year before, I had set out some resolutions. Gaining extra pounds was one of them. I started off the year at 143lbs, set out to join the gym. But due to some personal reasons, I was forced to start a month late and I finally started lifting in February. Now after 440 hours of weekly training I stand at 163lbs. Proud? Beyond any shadow of a doubt! But then again, I did slack around a bit so there’s always room of improvement.

If you’re trying to write a yearly review of your own, you don’t have to scrutinise every aspect of an event. You can maybe jot down some of the things you did achieve even though it wasn't part of your plan at the beginning of the year. Maybe it was a remarkable accomplishment that you didn’t plan? Maybe you failed miserably at a certain goal, but achieved something different of equal or greater value? Or maybe, you were broke but still ended up meeting your soulmate? Yes, life sometimes has better plans for us than we could ever imagine.

New perspectives for the rest of the year

Trying to control everything is one thing; looking back, reflecting and learning our lessons is another. There’s no right or wrong. I had my fair share of setbacks, but in my eyes it was always another opportunity for me to recalibrate and approach life with a new perspective. And that's exactly what I did when I lost my job in April. I was petrified about how I’d make ends meet. But thanks to a couple of friends and family members, and a few introspective sessions, I was back on my feet in no time. Now I work at a new company, happier and healthier.

There’s still five more months to go, and instead of pushing myself to achieve a lot more, I plan to use those days to kick it back a notch and wind down, celebrating how far I’ve come already. After all, life isn’t a race to the finish line, so it is up to you to take a few breaks and enjoy the ride.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve in style: Top Destinations

What a year we’ve had so far! 2022 has brought back some balance into our lives but it’s almost time to say goodbye and keep the positive momentum going as we move towards New Year's Eve (NYE). 2023 is dawning upon us and it’s time to ring in the New Year at some of the best destinations across the globe. I’ve been travelling around the world for some time now and have attended NYE in eight countries, some of them alone, some of them with my favourite bunch of people. Whether it’s a night filled with glitz and glam, a cosy night outdoors, a family-friendly daytime party, or an adventurous one, here are a few suggestions for you to consider.

New Year’s Eve cruises, Sydney

Alright I’ll keep it a buck with you, Sydney has given me one of the, if not the best NYE in recent times. Being one of the prettiest places on the entire planet, the city invites millions of revellers every year on the last day of the year. The major drawcard of the whole event is the NYE firework show that goes off at 9pm and midnight. My best friend, who is a native, had already informed me about the overwhelming crowd and about the best place to witness the extravagant celebrations. We decided to take to the waters onboard a New Year’s Eve dinner cruise and get an exclusive view of the festivities and boy was I surprised! The cruises exceeded all my expectations– the food was exceptional, the drinks unmatched and the views? Spectacular. We boarded the multi-million dollar catamaran and from its three expansive outer decks, we got to enjoy a crowd-free experience, while still enjoying the best of the fireworks display! Suffice to say, we had the time of our lives.

Explore Sri Lanka

What struck me the most about the land of serendipity is that it actually has it all. This gem of an island on the Indian Ocean boasts one of the largest tea plantations in the world, an immense variety of animals, green hills, unspoiled beaches, magical landscapes, ancient ruins and a wide range of spicy food! Spending the last few days of the year on this pearl of the Indian Ocean turned out to be one of the best choices in my entire life. The time I spent here was action-packed to say the least. We traversed our way through the land; by rafts, tuk-tuks, swimming, surfing, hiking, train rides and more, exploring the hidden gems and amazing nature. But that’s not all, we also spent New Year’s Eve with the other friends of the land–elephants, leopards, crocs and other exciting creatures!

Gems of Uganda

Uganda, or the pearl of Africa, was yet another destination where as soon as I set foot in, I was inclined towards the wilderness and ‘nature’ side of the nation. This vast country has the largest freshwater lake on the continent, the strongest waterfall, the most number of mountain gorillas and primates, a rich culture and a welcoming hospitality. Number one on my wishlist when I made Uganda my travel destination for NYE, was to trek in the rainforests to see the mountain gorillas and other primates in their natural habitat. It was the ultimate nature experience to do on New Year’s Eve. Although you could explore the capital city of Kampala and its culture, row on the famous lakes, or go on a mountain safari, the gorilla trek was our piece de resistance. Looking back, it was all epic times in Uganda, safe to say this could well be your next NYE destination!
