The Nostalgic Travellers

The Nostalgic Travellers Travel more consciously. Live more passionately. The Nostalgic Travellers is for anyone who yearns for a gentler, less hurried way of travelling.

For those who believe how you reach your destination is just as important as actually arriving. Too often when we travel, we’re in such a hurry to see and tick off a predetermined list of sites/sights on our travel bucket lists, we don’t truly see and experience the place we are visiting. Taking its cue from the Grand Tourists of old, The Nostalgic Travellers is about digging deeper. It’s about se

eing and experiencing places in newer, more enlightening ways. It encourages us to be in the moment. To stop, look, listen, learn and share. So we can open our eyes hearts and minds and appreciate the beauty of the world we live in. It’s more than just a way of travelling. It’s a lifestyle – a way of living in and viewing the world around us that can easily be incorporated into our daily lives.

“Travel is more than seeing the sights; it's a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” Miriam Beard

Okay everyone - I need your help to get Hugh Jackman's attention so we can to Nindigully for the 20th anniversary of the release of Paperback Hero which was filmed here in the Balonne Shire.

To join in, simply share this message or post your own to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag. We'd like this message spread far and wide.

See below for more details of the campaign and the new festival we've created around the movie are as below:

to Nindigully for 20th anniversary of Paperback Hero

What do you get when you mix a sweeping tale of romance, a rustic Outback pub, a cast of colourful local characters with the red dust and dirt of Outback Queensland? You get the perfect setting for a new blockbuster event for the Balonne Shire – the Nindigully Film & Music Festival.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Australian release of Paperback Hero, which starred Hugh Jackman and Claudia Karvan, the Balonne Shire Council is calling on residents to share their memories of when the “film circus”, as locals called it, came to town. This iconic Australian movie was filmed in Nindigully and the Balonne Shire, together with the equally iconic Nindigully Pub, will celebrate the occasion with a re-premiere of the movie, complete with a red dirt carpet, at the first annual Nindigully Film & Music Festival (4-6 October 2019).

Paperback Hero is based on Hugh Jackman’s character, Jack Willis, who is a paperback novelist and the embodiment of the archetypal Outback character – a tough, loveable larrikin who above all is as loyal to his mates as he is resilient. This is very much the story of Outback Queensland and the residents of the Balonne Shire.

Residents and friends of the Shire are asked to help lure Hugh Jackman back to Nindigully by getting involved with the social media campaign.

To join in, post a message to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and let the cast and crew from Paperback Hero know what it would mean to you to to Nindigully.

The 2018 Mildura Writers Festival is well underway. Thoroughly enjoyed hearing the journey of Robyn Davidson, author of Tracks, was spellbound by American poet Paul Kane and inspired by Australian author and winner of the Philip Hodgins Memorial, David Malouf. Lovely to see such a high calibre of talented writers gathered in this remote region of Australia.
