Today's visit to Hirth Aircraft Engines in Stuttgart, Germany, was a fantastic red-carpet experience.

The Germans really know how to produce beautifully crafted precision engineering on a grand scale.

Photography is limited in the working areas, but I can tell you that the sight of 100+ new engines being bench tested before beginning their final journey was something to behold.

Brand new 2-stroke ultralight engines between 25 - 70 HP are ready to ship.

This is a Super Duty that is one of three Builder Assistance projects under construction at Swish Projects right now. Interior painting is mostly done, we are installing the BRS, Viking header tank, control connections, and the extra access panel in the rear fuselage before the top skin is riveted into place. Then it's onto the rotiserie for exterior paint!

Dave is doing a fantastic job on this project. Swish Projects is really only here to help project manage and make the introductions!

If you know, you know.

This legend managed the impossible inbound to Oshkosh. There are only about three things you need to get right for the Fisk Arrival. Follow a trainline at 1,800 FT & 90 KTS - that is literally IT. You cant get lost, as you just follow the 300 aircraft ahead of you. He blasted through every one like a champion and somehow managed to evade capture before escaping off an occupied taxiway, downwind, and across an active runway on departure.

Fortunately, nobody was killed and amongst the pilot's it was the talk of the town. That the same person could have taken First Prize for the Golden Goose inbound, and outbound, is a statistical miracle.

He is now the stuff if legend and I can't wait for the movie.

Build it your way

Swish Projects has a single mission - to get you building! Build your own all-metal aircraft and build it your way. You choose the type of aircraft, the engine, the instruments, the upholstery, the paint scheme, and the tires. Would you like bigger fuel tanks? We can do that. How about a nice glass cockpit instrument panel and a Ballistic Recovery Parachute? Done and done.

People all over the world are building their own aircraft for a fraction of the cost of a new factory-built aircraft. Here is what you will need to get started!

Time. A lot of time. First-time builders starting with a Complete Aircraft Kit will take about two years to finish off their aircraft. The time taken will vary depending upon how much you apply yourself, the kit you have chosen and any other options (a Quick-Build option will save you about a year) you have chosen. For 90% of our clients this is not a problem at all. The build is part of the reason for buying from us in the first place! Get yourself out from in front of the TV every night and build an aircraft with your kids or your mates. Maybe you will set aside every Tuesday night for 4 hours, and every Sunday as your build day. There is real joy and satisfaction to come from building your own aircraft.

Money. We can’t escape that. The actual amount of money really depends four major variables: The model you have chosen, the US Dollar, the instrument package and engine choices. But the answer to your question - it is about $100 000AUD to finish it off. We could probably get you in the air for about $80 000, and you could easily spend $150 000 if you put your mind to it. Work on about $100 000 and you will be in good shape. You will probably spend less on your aircraft than others spend on motor homes and ski-boats.
