Railways of Western Australia The first WAGR line opened on 26 July 1879 between Geraldton and Northampton growing from that time.

The Fremantle to Guildford railway line opened in 1881 and I would like to share the history of WA railways with the general public to increase awareness of volunteers preserving our rail heritage and what services are offered for the public to appreciate. The marvelous knowledge of rail fans is a little much for the uninitiated so I offer this portal for people to take their first step and maybe

become more interested in rail and join more detailed pages than this. I am not a part of Hotham Valley Railway, just a grateful patron.

Contrasting liveries in Perth in July 1975. A1508 (EMD 12-567C 1,200hp) in original WAGR livery is shunting at the carriage sheds, while RA1910 (EE 12CSVT Mk II 1,950hp gross, 1,795hp net) in experimental livery departs Perth with a goods. The WAGR ADF class (AKA the Wildflower class) was a six member class of diesel-electric railcars (2 x EE 6H 209 bhp) operated by the Western Australian Government Railways between 1949 and 1975. Latterly they were used on the Bunbury Belle and Shopper services to Bunbury. Here is ADF495 Banksia looking resplendent after an overhaul, in the yard at Midland Workshops in October 1970. McIver station was opened on September 1st 1989 and named after Ken McIver, a long serving steam engine driver and Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for Northam and Avon from 1968 until 1986. The station was purpose-built to provide access directly to Royal Perth Hospital. Here is ADK686/ADB776 DMU passing the site of McIver Station on August 10th 1988.
