A sunny Florida morning to all. I want to share a story of a car owner being arrested for supposedly setting his own car on fire. First, please go online and enter your car make and model to see if there are any warnings on your car model. SO a car owner standing by his car was surprised when the car suddenly burst into flames. Thinking he was on fire, he ran from the car back to his other car near by. The person was originally out dropping commercial garbage at his office, before deciding to visit the location of his second vehicle . Realizing he had no cell phone on his person at the time, he tried to drive to a gas station nearby. Realizing there was a police car approaching from the rear, he pulled to the right expecting to tell the officer his car just burst into flames. Instead he was surrounded by other police cars, guns drawn and everyone screaming numerous orders. Complying and now handcuffed on the ground, to be greeted by the police officer he originally noticed when first going to retrieve items from his car. This officer screaming he saw the car owner set a car on fire. Stunned, scared and shocked, the car owner put his head down and kept quiet. This car owner I must mentioned, happens to be a Retired law enforcement officer. A trained federal first responder, a certified NRA PISTOL Instructor. Yet. The Arresting officer, fully aware of the car owners status and qualifications from ID in his wallet. Charged him with arson to his own vehicle and possession of fire arms in the commission of a felony. Two days after the arrest, social media postings of the incident went global ,and I mean Global. The car owner photographed in the rear of the police car. The authorized legal guns( two hand guns and one rifle, with supporting magazines of ammunition), were displayed on a table as if part of a major drug bust of Ten kilos of heroine . The Arresting officer reported seeing the person he arrested, driving reckless. There is no mention that the officer slowed, exchanged looks face to face with the driver. Then the officer observing the reckless driving simply continued traveling in his intended direction. The supposed reckless driver, made the right turn at the intersection, following the officer who later arrested him. The Arresting officer continued to the end of the street, making a left turn into the parking area the car owner was going. The officer made a uturn and exited the parking lot as the owner of the car entered the same parking lot. The car owner observed what he believed to be his 2nd vehicle. The weather was in the 40's/50 degrees, so the car owner was wearing a sweat jacket hat and gloves . The car owner suffers from numerous medical issues, which require wearing a mask as needed. To continue, verifying the vehicle as his, the owner removed advertising magnets to be used on a road trip that morning and returned to put the advertising in his originsl car. The purpose of visiting the 2nd vehicle was to leave certified mail for his work partner, not retrieved the day before. I want you as you read about this incident to consider the benefits of setting your own vehicle on fire. To collect insurance money? It's your car. Maybe you don't like the color? Estimated damage less than six thousand dollars. His insurance rate was increased 110% to date. As a result of his arrest, legal bills are in the $20k plus range so far. The car owner, who is an NRA Instructor, is unable to work as a result of the arrest. His weapons are still confiscated and he is not allowed to be in possession of fi****ms until the conclusion of his case.
