For the first time ASA had its nametag on the seats of the ICAO - International Civil Aviation Council. We were glad, and a bit moved, to join the Extraordinary Council Session held in the very same hotel in Chicago, IL, where 54 visionary States signed the Convention 80 years ago and celebrate this important milestone in the history of civil aviation.

And to mark the occasion, we meant to remind the world the unparallel contribution that aviation, in the air and on the ground, makes to people and businesses by co-signing the “Aviation4All” and the “Eighty Years of Collaboration, Progress, and Innovation in Global Aviation” Declarations. And cheers to the next decade!

Challenges and question marks are aplenty, but thanks to ASA’s timely recognition by ICAO, we will confidently face them as they unfold.

On the 80th anniversary of the Chicago Convention, the aviation industry has come together to deliver a joint declaration to ICAO, reaffirming its commitment to advancing safe, secure, and sustainable growth for international aviation.

This historic declaration, signed by key industry associations including ASA World- recently officially recognized by ICAO as an international organization - celebrates decades of collaboration and innovation that connect 5 billion passengers, 33% of global trade by value, and 58% of world tourists every year.

Fabio Gamba, Director General of ASA World, emphasizes:
“As we blow out the 80 candles on ICAO’s cake, we make a wish for continued collaboration that has made aviation the safest transport mode today. We are ready to tackle challenges ahead, including decarbonization, with ICAO at our side.”
Today, we honor aviation’s role in fostering global connectivity and pledge to uphold its mission of inclusion, sustainability, and progress.

ASA World releases a
unique State of the Aviation Services Industry Report.
ASA World, in collaboration with Steer, released its State of the Ground Handling Industry Report, offering a critical analysis of the aviation services sector. The report highlights the pressing need to address detrimental trends and provides actionable solutions for a resilient and sustainable industry. The data also validates long-standing industry concerns.

Key Findings include:
• 100bn total GVA contribution, yet revenues have declined by 4% annually over the past decade.
• 17% increase in productivity demands, while workforce wages continue to decline.
• 1.1M direct jobs, still 12% below pre-pandemic levels.
• Lack of widely recognized industry standards impacting training and safety.
• Limited capacity to invest in green transitions, hindering sustainability efforts.

ASA World calls on all stakeholders to recognize the strategic importance of aviation services and work together to shape a resilient, innovative, and sustainable future—not only for aviation service providers but for the entire aviation industry.
