Reminder: Slow down and move over for emergency vehicles! When you see flashing lights, give them space and reduce your speed. It’s the law and the right thing to do to keep everyone safe on the road. Your actions can make all the difference!

We have issued a Grid Status Watch for tomorrow morning, March 6, 2026, as the power system is forecast to have higher than usual demand and the availability of wind energy is expected to be low. Customers should monitor our social media and website for updates and prepare to conserve energy during peak demand times if asked. Customers can also call 1-800-670-1012 anytime to hear a message with the latest update.

Sgt. Jones with PEI RCMP Traffic Services has some great reminders for what to do if you’re involved in a vehicle collision

If you are involved in a collision, your safety—and the safety of others—comes first.

✅ If it’s safe, move your vehicle off the roadway.
✅ Exchange information with the other driver(s):
✔ Driver’s licence
✔ Vehicle registration
✔ Insurance information
✅ If anyone is injured call 911
✅ If anyone is injured OR if property damage appears to be $2,000 or more, the collision must be reported to the police service with jurisdiction where it occurred. Police will need the time and location of the collision, details of injuries, and a description of the damage.

If you come across a collision:
✔️ Park a safe distance away to protect the scene from further collisions.
✔️ Call 911 and provide the exact location.
✔️ Only leave your vehicle if it is safe. You may turn off the ignitions of the vehicles involved if it is safe to do so.
✔️ If occupants are injured, do not move them unless there is immediate danger. Moving them could worsen their injuries.

Let’s work together to keep PEI roads safe.

As the storm subsides later today, remember to be extra careful on icy and snowy roads and follow these winter driving safety precautions:

• Always clear off your entire vehicle of ice and snow before getting behind the wheel;
• Reduce your speed to reflect road conditions;
• Give yourself extra time to get to your destination;
• Increase your following distance to at least 8-10 seconds when driving on icy or snow-covered roads;
• Brake earlier and brake slowly; and
• Avoid cruise control in winter conditions as the short touch to the brake to deactivate can cause you to lose control of the vehicle.
