Ever landed somewhere starving after a long flight, only to sit at a hotel for hours with nothing to eat? That was us in San Juan. We were really disappointed and thought the night was just going to end with us hungry. Honestly, I almost called it.
But hunger has a funny way of motivating you. So instead of giving up, we went for a little bit of a walk. And that's when we found this absolute gem called Los Pinos Cafe.
Now, I'll be real with you. I'm normally the guy who sticks to what he knows. Comfortable, familiar, not too far from the hotel. The idea of wandering somewhere I didn't have a guide made me a little nervous. But we went anyway, and I'm so glad we did.
Los Pinos is a short walk from the hotel area, nothing scary, nothing sketchy. The neighborhood felt safe, the people were genuinely friendly, and when we walked in as a big group late in the evening, they had plenty of room for everyone. No attitude. No tourist treatment. The atmosphere was fantastic and it felt completely real.
And the food. 🙌 The boneless chicharrones with the spicy dipping sauces. Crispy, flavorful, the kind of dish your whole table fights over until the very last piece is gone. We kept talking about that meal for the rest of the trip.
What I took away from that night wasn't just a great dinner recommendation. It was a reminder of what becomes possible when you let yourself stretch a little. We were minutes away from giving up on the whole evening. Instead, we ended up with one of the best memories of the entire trip.
That's the thing about saying yes to a little bit of adventure on vacation. You never really know what you're going to find. And they could turn out to be some of the best times of your life, some of the best food of your life, and some of the best memories of your life.
If you're thinking about a Caribbean cruise that starts and ends in San Juan, I'd love to help you plan it. Not just the ship part, but the whole experience, including what to do before you ever board. Reach out and let's talk. 🌴
