Hudson Bay Travel Club - Austria, Germany & Switzerland 2026

Today was our last day in Europe. We boarded the bus back to Germany early this morning, our first stop was in Freiburg for lunch. Then we moved on to Heidelberg where we are spending the night before heading to Frankfurt in the morning to start our journey back to Canada.

Today we went to the top of Mount Pilatus in the Swiss Alps. It was a 20 minute ride up the ariel cable way and an additional 10 minutes in the gondola. The views from the top were amazing! We then made our way to Lucerne and took a boat tour of Lake Lucerne, as well as exploration in the city.

Wednesday the sun was shining and we were able to see the Austrian Alps. Our morning was spent touring Schloss Ambras a renaissance castle and one of the oldest museums in the world. In the afternoon we returned to Innsbruck then made our way to Switzerland with a stop in Lichtenstein.

Tuesday was a day for testing our flexibility. Our first scheduled tour was cancelled due to government officials using the building and the second tour was cancelled due to too much ice on the hill for the bus to travel. The result alot of was free time to experience carnaval in Innsbruck and explore the Swarovski crystal store.

We spent Monday morning at Dachau Concentration Camp. Dachau was the longest running camp where over 41000+ people lost their life, 32000+ murdered and the others to illness or su***de. After the sombering morning we enjoyed a tour of Munich before moving on to some fun at BMW World.

Yesterday we made our way to Germany with a stop in Salzburg. Salzburg means salt castle and got its name due to the abundance of salt and its value in the middle ages. Salt was known as white gold and had a similar value to gold. Salzburg is also the birth place of Mozart and the backdrop for The Sound of Music. Our local guide highlighted some of the historical sites before we were able to spend some free time in the city. We took the funicular to the fortress and took in the amazing view before exploring the fortress.
