Tonight, the fire service community across Atlantic Canada mourns the loss of Firefighter Alexandru Uichita of the Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department, who made the ultimate sacrifice while battling a wildfire in Nova Scotia.
Alex was only 40 years old, a husband, a father of three young children, a brother firefighter, and someone described by his department as dependable, kind, and always willing to help others.
Wildland firefighting is physically demanding, unpredictable, and dangerous work. This tragedy is a heartbreaking reminder that behind every fire truck, every hose line, and every wildfire response are real people serving their communities with courage and selflessness.
From all of us in the fire service community, we extend our deepest condolences to Alex’s family, the members of the Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department, and everyone impacted by this devastating loss.
Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here.
