Broken Wagon Homestead mid summer update:

We have plenty of frozen whole chicken available at $5 per pound, we raised them large again this season so they range from $26 and up. Later in the year we will have smaller available too. We are fully stocked on ethically pasture-raised chicken - message us to pick up yours today!

Eggs have been flying off the farm quicker than the girls can lay them and we can barely keep up with orders. First off, thank you to our customers as you're the reason we're staying sold out. We appreciate you always. We noticed we have a decrease in egg production, mostly because we have a lot of geriatric hens in the flock. It's always a challenge balancing egg production with customer demand. Our hens stay with us for life as our thanks to them for giving us beautiful fresh eggs daily. We will keep everyone posted as egg production changes.

We will likely hold off on offering additional produce till next season but definitely stay tuned 😉

That's a wrap on our 2026 broiler season! Three rounds back-to-back, all completed.

Countless hours went into raising these birds. Endless feed, fresh water, clean shavings for bedding, and daily trips out to pasture (except during severe weather). They made it through heatwaves, smoky skies from the northern wildfires, and long summer days with the help of sprinklers or a fan as needed.

There is literal blood, sweat, and tears poured into raising these chickens and giving them the best life possible. We're also incredibly thankful to work with such a fantastic processor who takes just as much pride in their work as we do.

The finished product speaks for itself, and seeing it all come together makes every bit of the hard work worthwhile. Thank you to everyone who supports Broken Wagon Homestead. Big thanks to our friends for each lending us a cooler or two, you saved us one extra trip, time and gas.

Meet Lucy! Until very recently, Lucy was our only Leghorn. She was part of a no-show pickup order at our local feed store, so we took her and four others home 3 years ago. Lucy use to be the most cuddly and friendly chick but as an adult she wants nothing to do with us.

If you got a white egg in your carton or flat, it was probably from Lucy. She's still laying, but someday she might stop providing us with an egg.

Like all of our layers here at Broken Wagon Homestead, as our girls get older and stop laying, we don't replace or cull them. They retire and continue living with the flock as our fancy geriatric yard décor hens.

Yesterday, we were welcomed to share the very first meal in our good friend's home after some lengthy renovations.

Jack fired up the charcoal BBQ and cooked one of our pasture-raised chickens, and we have to say, it was one of the best chickens we've ever had! It was incredibly juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. We can raise them with care on pasture, but ours never turn out looking quite this good.

Thank you Jack for including us in such a meaningful milestone. It was an honour to share your first dinner in your beautiful home. The meal was so delicious that we all forgot to take a photo before it disappeared from our plates.

It's a hot day on the farm and thank the powers that be for shade, a nice breeze and a big barn fan investment. The broilers are hot but they're enjoying the fresh air and pasture!
