When my good friend Richard, known as Ditch, suggested we go to Yellowknife in the Northern Territories of Canada, I began to shiver.

One of my favourite things about travelling is how it makes the spectacularity of our planet ever more real and apparent. There is a vast array of different cultures and landscapes to immerse yourself in, and some of those make you learn more about yourself then ever before. What was the one travel experience you felt that changed you?

NEW POST!

Check out Joseph Rees’s latest post on his short shorts adventure to Istanbul.

“Istanbul had always been on my immediate list of places to travel. Known to many as where East meets West, it is an unusually harmonious melting pot of different cultures and religions. A city rich in history, architecture, Turkish delight, and apparently…. Somewhat LGBT+ friendly?”

My dream for The Gay Unknown has always been for it to be a collective. A group of LGBTQ+ writers and bloggers that travel the world and share their adventures and experiences and talk about issues that are important to the community.

With that being said, I want to welcome Joe to the family! 🎉🎉🎉

This funny, creative, and ambitious Brit loves to travel the world (usually in his short shorts) and is also launching a great charity called HomoJo that aims to help fight internalized homophobia and division within the LGBTQ+ community. Feel free to read more about him in the “About Us” section on the website!

Also, check out his first blog post with us about his adventures in Istanbul. LINK BELOW:

Santorini vibes. This gorgeous island can be a tourist trap, but the towns of Oia and Fira have some of the most spectacular views ever. What city have you been to that you think is the most picturesque?

I had the amazing experience of exploring through South Jordan in the Valley of the Moon (Wadi Rum Desert). If you could adventure through any desert, which one would you want to see? ☀️😎

ABOUT ME AND MY JOURNEY

Hello fellow travellers!

My name is Brandon and welcome to The Gay Unknown. Let me give you a little background story on who I am...

When I was younger, the walls of my room were covered with maps of places I dreamed of visiting. I spent hours of my time reading and watching documentaries about ancient civilizations, world cultures, and the various histories of the world and of its people. I’d awe at the diversity of humanity and the intricacies of what those different places and cultures had to offer. This fed into a very innate aspect of my being; an incessant and instinctive need to travel.

My professional life has been quite eclectic and varied. While most of my life has been dedicated to entertainment and working in film; I have also crewed for hot air balloons, managed gay nightclubs and been a buyer and importer of liquor and wines from around the world. When I wasn’t busy working, my recreational life was spent elsewhere getting lost in the unknown. ATVing in the jungles of Mexico, sailing in the Mediterranean, swimming in underground cenotes, and exploring ancient Mayan, Roman, and Grecian ruins. There have been moments where I have had to sleep on an open beach with nothing but a blanket because I didn’t have a room for a night, to staying at an old French ambassadors villa on a Greek island.
