Postcards from Switzerland Showcasing the beauty of Switzerland through the lens of a newcomer.

Walking around Zurich last night and we spotted the famous Jelmoli Christmas tram which is operated by Santa Claus and accompanied by two angels telling Christmas stories 🤯

By the way, the tram is called Märlitram and it’s only for children ❤️ Christmas is a big deal in this part of the world and I’m all for it 😍

A few days ago, we took a day trip from Zurich to Mount Pilatus which is a mountain massif overlooking Lucerne in Central Switzerland. Each picture has its own caption 🇨🇭

It took us around 40min to get to Lucerne by train, then a short bus ride to the bottom of Pilatus, followed by three gondola rides before we finally got to the very top (2,218 meters above sea level).

It started out quite cold and misty at the bottom, got even colder in the middle, and then once towered over the clouds at the very top, the sun was shining and it was much more pleasant 🤣

Being from the southern hemisphere, we don't see snow very often, especially during the festive season, but seeing the snowy Alps with my own eyes is a very beautiful sight indeed. It's quite difficult to capture the vast nature of these snowy landscapes.

Once we got to the top, we took in all the views for about 45min, and then indulged in a Swiss fondue at the main restaurant to tick off this adventure on the bucket list 🥰

The Swiss are engineering masters and I couldn't stop marveling at their ability to build these intricate structures so high up in the Alps. I was also reminded how small we are as humans in this world and how frail our existence really is.

All in all, Switzerland is an amazing country and I just love exploring every destination they have on offer while learning more about Swiss culture ❤️

Zurich takes Christmas seriously 🎄 It's hard not to get into the festive spirit when the alps are covered in snow, there are Christmas markets on every corner, and the streets of Zurich are bathed in a magical light show 🎅

Coming from the Southern hemisphere, it's quite something to witness how people on the other side celebrate Christmas. It certainly makes you feel like a child again ❤️

A few days ago, we visited the inner courtyard of the National Museum which has been transformed into a winter wonderland of light, illumination, illusion, music, and culinary delights.

After that, we took a walk along the Bahnhofstrasse (the most expensive retail street in Switzerland) where every year, the “Lucy” Christmas lights are switched on during late-night shopping to herald in the festive season. The Christmas nights get their name from the Beatles song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”.

The “Lucy” lights comprise some 11,150 glass crystals and 23,100 LED lights, illuminating the entire length of the 1,050-metre stretch.

2023 is shaping up to be the best Christmas yet ❤️

About a week ago, I traded summer walks on the Sea Point promenade for enchanting Christmas markets, dazzling lights, and a festive atmosphere in Zurich 🎅 Each picture has its own caption 🖼️

It might be a few degrees cooler this side but it's oh so beautiful and I thought I'd share a few snaps with all of you 🥰

The city's enchanting beauty shines against the backdrop of the snowy Swiss Alps, offering a winter wonderland experience that combines urban sophistication with the serene magic of the season.

It's been a really long and hard here so for the next few weeks, I'll just be acting like a tourist in my second home while taking in all the beauty.

I hope that whatever you do over the next few weeks, you take some time to rest physically while also restoring your mental, emotional, and spiritual tanks!
