The Black-throated Mango is a hummingbird with presence.

Its dark throat catches the eye, but its behavior tells the story: moving between flowers, returning to productive nectar sources, and sometimes defending feeding areas with surprising confidence.

Hummingbirds are not only beautiful. They are strategic.

Colombia, estamos contigo. 🇨🇴

Today, our thoughts are with the people, families and communities affected by the earthquake in Colombia. 🇨🇴

At Faunaris, we believe solidarity should also lead to action. We have decided to contribute, and we invite our community to join us if they are able to do so.

If you would like to help, please donate directly through the official and verified channels of the Colombian Red Cross.

We are also closely following the situation of our local partners, suppliers and communities in the affected territories. They are an essential part of the experiences we create and of our connection with Colombia's biodiversity and landscapes.

Over the coming days, some routes, access points or services may be temporarily limited or require adjustments as emergency response and recovery efforts continue. If any scheduled experience is affected, we will contact our travelers directly.

Every contribution matters. Every act of solidarity counts.

Colombia, we stand with you. 🇨🇴

In the cloud forests of the western Andes, some hummingbirds do more than feed — they hold territory.

The Velvet-purple Coronet (Boissonneaua jardini) is a near-endemic species shared mainly between western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. Its white tail flashes and chestnut underwings are only part of the story.

What makes this hummingbird unforgettable is its attitude: it can defend flower patches from other nectar feeders and, after landing, often holds its wings raised for a brief moment.

A small bird with territorial energy, cloud forest character, and a very limited range.

Explore Colombia’s birdlife with Faunaris, where every observation reveals behavior, habitat, and natural history.

Did you know this hummingbird changes color with the light? 💜

There’s a moment in the Andes when a hummingbird turns and its throat ignites — deep blue one second, gone the next.

Meet the Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Coeligena helianthea. Males show an intense blue throat, bright forehead, dark green upperparts, and a rosy-pink belly — the feature behind its Spanish name, Inca buchirrosado. Females are subtler, a difference biologists call sexual dichromatism.

You’ll find this species in cloud forests, forest edges, high-Andean shrublands, and gardens — feeding on nectar and quietly pollinating as it goes.

This is the kind of detail you only catch with time, patience, and someone who knows exactly where to look.

Did you know one of the most elegant birds of the Andean cloud forest spends long moments completely still before suddenly revealing its color?

The Masked Trogon (Trogon personatus) is one of those birds that defines the atmosphere of humid Andean forests. Its deep colors, calm posture, and quiet presence make it unforgettable for birders exploring montane forest habitats in Colombia.

This species often perches silently in the mid-levels of the forest, watching its surroundings before moving to take fruits or insects. It is not flashy in movement, but in presence — a bird that teaches you to slow down and look carefully.

Join Endemics of Cundinamarca with Faunaris and experience the beauty of Colombia’s Andean forests with expert guidance.

Birdwatching doesn't happen in empty landscapes. 🌿

It happens in living territories — cloud forests, páramos, and farmland where communities make daily decisions that shape what biodiversity survives.

Swipe to understand what "community-based" birdwatching actually means — beyond the buzzword.
