Say hello to this charming little local! 🐸 We spotted this Smilisca baudinii (also known as Mexican Treefrog) hanging out by the pool in Playa Grande, Guanacaste. These guys are quite common, often found near human habitats, and are generally pretty chill – you might even say quite tolerant of our presence!
While they're masters of blending into their surroundings, it's their fascinating calls that truly announce their presence, especially after dark!

Listen closely for their unique chorus:
Did you know their vocal range is incredibly diverse? You might hear a loud, almost duck-like "quack-ack!" or a distinct, lower "boop-boop-boop." But the really cool part is when they get together – they often call in a synchronized chorus, creating a bustling, vibrant symphony that can sound like a dozen different species! It's one of the most distinctive and lively sounds of a Costa Rican night.

Next time you're enjoying the evening in Guanacaste, keep an eye out for these adaptable little frogs and an ear open for their amazing "conversations"!
