Yesterday was my brother Sippo’s and Katya’s big day ❤️ congratulations, lovelies!
Their prompt for flowers were Katya’s amazing hot pink heels and Sippo’s more muted pink tie, and the end result looked wonderful in the streets of Copenhagen. I will post some pro photos when we get them.
It was a fun adventure to do floral work abroad. I am envious of the quality and price of blooms when you are closer to where they are grown.
The sense of adventure was added by the fact that our luggage with all my tools got lost by the airline, and arrived the morning after the wedding. Local florists were super helpful though, and being an amateur I’m luckily used to working with whatever is around, so we worked with recycled Fiskars scissors and some heavy wire. Our parents managed to pick up some lighter wire and floral tape (and transport them in their carry-on luggage) when they got spare clothes for us for the wedding, as they arrived in Copenhagen a day later. The quality of the bookstore ribbon was not perfect, but it held everything in place and matched the colors well enough. Katya wished for a lot of greens, but mainly eucalyptus was available, and we couldn’t use that as it would be toxic for their cat Naomi!
The dahlias, some of my favorite flowers and definite fall highlights, are more durable and beautiful than I’ve ever found on wholesale in Finland. I can only imagine getting to work with blooms like these year round. Can you believe the pic of Sippo’s boutonniere is taken after 3 hours in the sun, greeting and hugging all of the guests, and twirling his new wife around repeatedly?
It was lovely to get to see the flowers in action for once - we followed the photoshoot around the city, and since I didn’t have any preservative (which I firmly believe is a magic substance) and it was hot, we carried around a vase with water to keep the flowers when they were not in the photos. I could observe how the flower stems lose volume once they dry, and the bouquet loosens. It was nice to be around to be able to adjust the flowers as needed.
