Saqqara never ceases to amaze! An Egyptian archaeological mission has unearthed the intact tomb of the Old Kingdom nobleman Sekhentiu-Ptah at the Bubasteion necropolis, shedding fresh light on the era of the pyramid builders.
Who Was Sekhentiu-Ptah?
Inscriptions reveal he was a high-ranking court official and a key administrator of the state, bearing prestigious titles such as:
* Royal Chamberlain
* Overseer of the King’s Works
* Overseer of Royal Documents
* Priest of Ma'at (goddess of truth and justice)
Highlights of the Discovery:
* An Intact False Door: Found in situ inside the funerary chapel, remarkably preserving its original hieroglyphic inscriptions and vivid pigments.
* A Complete Alabaster Ritual Set: Discovered right before the false door, including an offering table, a purification basin, a libation ewer, and a basin in pristine condition.
* Late Period Re-use: A network of connected burial shafts revealed the site’s later history, yielding 3 sealed stone sarcophagi, over 100 faience ushabti figurines, painted funerary cartonnage, and wooden statues.
A remarkable testament to Egypt’s enduring history, proving once again that the sands of Saqqara still hold countless secrets waiting to be told. 🇪🇬✨
