On September 22, Policía Local de Ceuta began removing the informal street-vending stalls that had appeared at Playa del Trampolín, where a large migrant settlement has remained since the mass arrival at the end of July.

The stalls were selling a variety of goods, including food, clothing, footwear and other everyday products. According to local reporting, police gave the vendors a period of time to dismantle the stalls and remove their merchandise as part of the enforcement of municipal regulations on unauthorized street vending.

The operation quickly became tense. Local reports said some people reacted by throwing objects, including stones and shoes, toward police officers.

The footage shows the scene as people cleared clothing, shoes, tables and other merchandise from the beach.

The intervention is another development at Playa del Trampolín, which has become one of the main informal settlements in Ceuta following the events of July 30–31.

And the situation did not end that evening. On September 23, Policía Local returned to the area, accompanied by Policía Nacional officers, after some stalls reportedly reappeared overnight.

Ceuta saw another major street mobilization on Sunday, September 20, as more than 1,000 people marched toward the Frontera del Tarajal, the crossing between Ceuta and Morocco.

The demonstration was organized by the Federación Provincial de Asociaciones de Vecinos (FPAV). Participants carried Spanish, Ceuta and European Union flags as they travelled along the coast toward the border. A large motorcycle procession also joined the mobilization.

The march came 52 days after the mass arrival at the end of July, which has continued to affect daily life in the city.

At the Tarajal border, protesters gathered for several minutes under police supervision. The demonstration focused on demands for greater border protection and solutions to the situation facing Ceuta.

The scale of the motorcycle procession is particularly striking in these images. Hundreds of riders filled the road, many carrying Spanish flags, while thousands of people gathered along the route.

Meanwhile, the wider situation remains unresolved. RTVE reported on September 20 that around 8,300 migrants were accommodated in different centres, while more than 4,000 remained in the streets. The temporary reception camp at the port currently has capacity for around 1,700 people, with work underway to expand it.

These images show another chapter in a crisis that has now become part of everyday life in Ceuta.

Today, September 20, more than 1,000 people took to the streets of Ceuta and marched toward the Frontera del Tarajal, demanding greater protection for the city and its border amid the ongoing migration crisis.

The demonstration was organized by the Federación Provincial de Asociaciones de Vecinos (FPAV). Participants carried Spanish, Ceuta and European Union flags, while a separate motorcycle convoy joined the march. The groups travelled roughly two kilometres toward the Tarajal border crossing, where they gathered under police supervision.

Among the slogans displayed during the demonstration was “SOS Ceuta invadida”, while another repeated phrase was “Un caballa nunca se rinde.” These were slogans used by protesters during the mobilization.

The demonstration comes almost two months after the mass arrival of people from Morocco at the end of July, which has left Ceuta dealing with continued pressure on accommodation, public services and border management.

The images in this video show the scale of today’s mobilization, with hundreds of people walking and motorcycles moving toward one of Spain’s most sensitive border crossings.

The dramatic scenes were only the beginning.

The new temporary camp at the port can accommodate around 1,700 people, but more than 3,000 migrants were estimated to be living in the beach settlements.

Once the available places filled up, many people had nowhere to go except back toward the beaches.

There was another complication: the operation was focused on adult men. Minors identified among the groups had to be separated and referred to the appropriate services.

So today’s question is no longer simply how to move people from the beaches.
Where do the thousands who still have nowhere to go go next?

What was supposed to be a large-scale transfer from Ceuta’s beaches to a new temporary reception camp at the port quickly became a scene of tension and confusion.

Early this morning, Police and Guardia Civil began moving migrants from the beach settlements toward the new facilities at the Muelle de Poniente, after the Audiencia Nacional cleared the way for the camp to operate.

The problem was immediately obvious: the camp can accommodate around 1,700 people, while thousands were still living in the beach settlements. As people realized that places were limited, large groups rushed toward the port hoping to secure a place.

The operation became tense. Police tried to control the crowds and organize people into groups along the seafront. According to El País, the initial rush included an incident in which police fired shots into the air, and several people were injured.

The images in this video show just a small part of what happened today: police vehicles surrounding the crowds, officers escorting people from the beach, migrants carrying their belongings, and hundreds of people moving through the streets.

But there is another important part of the story.

There simply wasn't space for everyone.

People who could not enter the new facilities were sent back toward the beach settlements. The largest settlement at El Trampolín remained in place, while the operation focused primarily on Playa Benítez.

This is no longer simply a question of moving people from one location to another.

It is a logistical, humanitarian and security challenge involving thousands of people, limited accommodation and a city that has been dealing with the consequences of the mass arrival since the end of July.

This morning, a major operation began in Ceuta.

Police and Guardia Civil started transferring migrants from the beach settlements, particularly Playa Benítez, to a new temporary reception facility at the Muelle de Poniente, in the Port of Ceuta.

The operation began shortly after 6:30 a.m., with people being gathered and escorted along the coast toward the new facilities. The transfer was made possible after the Audiencia Nacional rejected a request to temporarily suspend the use of the port camp on Thursday.

But there is a major problem.

Authorities estimate that more than 4,000 people are currently living between the two beach settlements, while the first port facility has capacity for around 1,700–1,800 people.

That difference has become one of the central challenges of today’s operation.

As people realized that places in the new camp were limited, large groups began moving quickly toward the port. Police and Guardia Civil were deployed to keep the transfer under control and prevent an uncontrolled rush.

The new facility is intended to provide temporary accommodation while authorities carry out identification and determine each person’s legal situation, including possible asylum procedures or return processes. Minors identified during the operation are being separated and referred to the appropriate services.

For Ceuta, this marks another major chapter in a crisis that began with the mass arrival at the end of July.

What began with thousands crossing into the city has now evolved into a much more complicated question:
