“Cannes is going to need a bigger boat show.”
The Cannes Yachting Festival has traditionally been associated with new launches and production yachts, but its influence within the larger superyacht market is becoming increasingly apparent.
This year, while more than 700 boats from 5 to 55 metres are being presented across the Vieux Port and Port Canto, an increasing number of larger yachts for sale are positioning themselves along the surrounding Côte d’Azur, taking advantage of the concentration of buyers, owners, shipyards and brokers in Cannes.
To put that into numbers, the average length of the 45 superyachts for sale in Port Canto is just under 40 metres. When the yachts surrounding the show are included, there are 55 yachts over 40 metres in the area.
Among the 50 and 60-metre yachts moored offshore is the 77.8-metre Amels ENERGY, available to view by appointment.
Delivered in 2022, ENERGY offers 2,884 GT of interior volume, accommodation for 14 guests and a dedicated Owner’s deck with direct access to a private pool. Other features include a beach club, spa, gym, helicopter landing area and a 10-metre main deck swimming pool.
Her presence illustrates how Cannes is developing beyond the boundaries of the show itself. For serious buyers, the week now presents an opportunity to view and compare an even greater range of vessels.
The yachts may not all be inside the festival, but the market has definitely gathered around it.
To borrow a line from Jaws, perhaps they’re going to need a bigger boat show.
