We had a mini-Camino Portugués reunion at our house in Weston, Colorado. Kenny from England and Cindy from Arvada, CO joined us for a few days and a hike to an overlook from Cuchara Pass. 5 July, we arrived at the Outeiro pilgrim's albergue, less than 17 kilometers from Santiago de Compostela, along the Camino Sanabrés. The last kilometer waymark we saw was 17.33, after 25 kilometers, in this brutal heat. It was already hot by 9:30. The thermometer topped out at 101° F (38° C). There were some, but not enough cool forest sections. It was a day spent quite a bit walking on pavement. We hope to arrive in Santiago de Compostela by 11:00 tomorrow, the 6th!

Today, in 100 degrees Fahrenheit, (38 C) we stumbled into Silleda, our 19th day along the Via de la Plata, the Camino Sanabrés section, after 28 brutal but lovely kilometers. We are now within striking distance of Santiago de Compostela at 40 km left to go! The heat wave has intensified and walking past noon is most miserable. We arrived in Silleda at 1330, too late to beat the intense heat. The reflective solar umbrellas came out about 1030 at the first incline in the sun! Richard Bieling
