NBE eases LC rules, caps fees in FX reform push

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has amended its foreign exchange regulations to permit commercial banks to authorize Letters of Credit (LCs) and Cash Against Documents (CAD) for institutions maintaining foreign-currency and retention accounts, eliminating the requirement for prior central bank approval. Additionally, the NBE has mandated that banks standardize fees and charges related to LCs on an annualized, pro-rata basis, ensuring they remain within the maximum limits previously established by the bank.
