Our Stockholm metro journey continues — and this time we’re getting off at Kungsträdgården, the final stop on the Blue Line. 🚇🇸🇪 The story begins above ground. In the 1970s, plans connected with the new metro entrance threatened some of Kungsträdgården’s old elm trees. Stockholmers protested fiercely, even occupying the trees, and the plans were eventually changed. 🌳✊

Underground, the station feels like a mysterious archaeological world. Chequered floors, sculptures, columns and fragments inspired by the history of the area turn the platforms into something closer to a subterranean museum than an ordinary metro stop. 🏛️

Some of the historical elements are linked to Makalös Palace, the magnificent 17th-century palace that once stood nearby before being destroyed by fire.

This is definitely one station where you’ll want to let the next train leave without you. There’s simply too much to discover. 📸

Smart technology can make a big difference at sea. 🚢

When Viking Grace entered service, she became the world’s first large passenger ship powered by liquefied natural gas. She also later became the first passenger ship to use a rotor sail, harnessing wind power to support propulsion.

Viking Glory takes energy efficiency even further. Technology on board recovers waste heat from the engines and converts it into energy that can be reused elsewhere on the ship. Even the cold energy created when LNG is converted back into gas is put to use, including for cooling purposes. ♻️✨

Less wasted energy, smarter use of resources and technology designed with the Baltic Sea in mind.
