This winter we are doing aurora hunts also in Vuokatti! 🤩

We check aurora and weather forecast all the time, so we can offer the best chances for you to witness this amazing phenomena. The aurora forecast looks currently very good, weather is quite cloudy but it seems that some nights the clouds will crack.

HOW DOES IT WORK

- Send us a message, telling that you are interested in auroras and tell the date, when you arrive and leave.
- We will mark your name into calendar and we will send a message to you, when we have a suggestion for the best tour date
- When the date is decided, we will send you a webshop link to pay
- Afterwards all you need to do is to wait at your pick up point on the tour date. Wear warm clothes, we take care of everything else, like headlamps and warm drinks!

I realised that I have a blog telling about our beautiful province Kainuu, but I have never went to total basics! So I made a new article to the blog: What is Kainuu Arctic Lakeland 😃

Kainuu is a small, not very known province in the middle of Finland. It is also called as Arctic Lakeland, which is nice descriptive name in my opinion.

Kainuu has very few people. For example it's capital, Kajaani has 36 000 inhabitants. Kajaani and Kuhmo are the only places in Kainuu that are considered as towns, the rest are villages and ski centers, and of course most of the area is forests and lakes. 😄

Kainuu is great destination to travel both in the winter and summer, especially if you love a bit less known locations that are not ruined with overtourism!

We have returned from our holiday/benchmarking trip! 🤩 We were 3 weeks travelling in Germany and Italy, using bicycles, ferry, bus and train. Both of us think that this is the best adventure we have ever had!

This was also great opportunity to test all the new equipment we have bought. New gravel bikes turned out to be great and suprisingly we didn't have any problems, even we were very unexperienced when we started. Not a single flat tire, broken chain, anything! Also not any sore back or butt! 🙈

We have now added a new section into our website for rental equipment. If you want to come to Kainuu and do a hike, canoeing or bike tour intependedly, we have everything you need! It is possible to do small budget adventure, since in Finland you can camp for free almost anywhere. 😉 Link will be in the comments!

Yesterday we noticed that we can already see couple of stars in the sky at nights. It means that the aurora season is approaching! 🤩 Fall is great time to photograph the auroras, because they make amazing reflections on the lakes!

What does a guide do on their off-day? Going to the nature of course! Right now we finally have summery weather here in Kuhmo, so we decided to head into lake Lentua with a fellow enterprenour/blogger Giulia. 😊

Lentua is great destination for hot summer days. This huge lake has alot of islands with sandy beaches. We started from Isojoki parking and paddled 3 km to Multipakka sand bank.

I have this new Fitnord inflatable kayak and it has been working great. I'm thinking if I should start renting it? 🤔

What are eskers? 🏞️

Eskers are long, winding ridges of sand and gravel, formed by meltwater rivers that once flowed beneath glaciers during the Ice Age. As the glaciers melted, these rivers left behind sinuous trails of sediment—like nature's own highways.

In ancient times, people walked along these dry, elevated ridges to avoid swamps and thick forests. Today, many hiking trails still follow their paths. So when you're walking an esker, you're stepping through geological and cultural history! 👣🌍

The reindeer have returned!

🦌 Last Saturday we were in sauna and decided to go out to the terrace to cool down. We started hearing some noise from the forest and then a wild forest reindeer appeared from behing our garage! And not just one, after it there was another, and another, alltogether 5 of them. It was beutiful sight when they crossed our yard in the sunset.

In the wintertime we don't see them around our house, because for the winter they move somewhere more west, I guess to Sotkamo.

🤔 But what is a wild forest reindeer and how is it different from reindeer we see in Lapland? From the comments you find a link to an article telling about different reindeer in Kainuu.

We have this tour called Life in Bearlands where you get to visit our house and we do a small nature walk in the surrounding forest. Sometimes we see the reindeer during the tour! I will put a link into our tours too into the comments. 😊
