A wonderful visit to Maison Brana (Irouléguy) 🍷⛰️

This week, I had the chance to visit Maison Brana, producing exceptional Irouléguy wines since 1897, in the heart of the Basque Country.

A big thank you to Gaëlle PREVERAUD for the warm welcome and the discovery of their stunning showroom… it truly feels like a museum.

I also explored the distillery with Denis, the technical manager, who shared his passion and took me behind the scenes of production, including their impressive 30+ year old copper stills.

After the visit, I enjoyed an amazing lunch in the mountains (Gaëlle’s recommendation 😉)… and moments like this remind me why I love what I do.

This is exactly why I created The Basque Way: to connect travelers with authentic places and passionate local producers.

Exciting news: we are currently working with Maison Brana to develop exclusive vineyard visits and private experiences, including wine tastings and lunch with breathtaking vineyard views.

Today was all about authentic Basque traditions and local flavors : the kind of experience that makes you fall in love with this region even more.

🌶️ First stop : Espelette, where we wandered through vibrant Espelette pepper fields and learned the secrets behind this iconic AOP spice, a true symbol of Basque identity.

🧀 Next, a local cheese farm, tucked in the green hills. We met passionate producers, tasted creamy Ossau-Iraty cheese, and discovered the art of Basque cheesemaking from pasture to plate.

🌸 To end the day, we strolled through the poetic gardens of Villa Arnaga in Cambo-les-Bains, once home to playwright Edmond Rostand, a peaceful retreat blending art, history, and nature.
