Drivers told to clear windscreens or face fines

The DVSA has urged HGV drivers to ensure their windscreens are always clear of obstruction after a cyclist in Birmingham was killed.
Robert Bradbury was found guilty of causing death by careless driving after he failed to see NHS doctor Suzanna Bull because a tray table on his cab dashboard was cluttered with ornaments and restricting his view (CM 12 December 2019).
He was sentenced to 21 months in prison and banned from driving for two years and 10 months.
During the case, it came to light that Bradbury’s employer knew that the lorry wouldn’t pass an annual test with the tray and so it was removed during tests, then replaced afterwards.

The DVSA said it has highlighted cases of blocked windscreens in the past, but that as a result of this case and the coroner’s verdict it was reminding all professional drivers of the importance of having clear windscreens.
In a blog post, the enforcement agency said: “We always check a lorry’s windscreen is clear of obstruction when carrying out our roadside checks.
“Unfortunately, our enforcement staff do still find vehicles where the drivers’ view is obscured.
“In all cases, the drivers will be given a prohibition and penalty. The obstruction must also be removed before the lorry is allowed to move on.”

Periodic driver cpc course are available every month. LCA Transport Training, offer courses throughout the week and can also deliver courses at weekends, for those who prefer / aren’t able to attend a mid week course.
It is recommended that a driver enrols on a driver CPC course each year, ensuring that drivers are kep up to date and not caught out by the constant changing legislation within the transport industry.

We offer 3.5 hours and 7 hours courses. So, whatever your circumstances, we are able to cater for your needs. Please note if you wish to book 2 x 3.5 hour courses, they need to be taken within 24 hours of each other!

Here's a little bit about LCA Transport Training :)

LCA Transport training is a newly formed business, however it’s owner Lynn Cullen has been a Transport Manager for over 30 years and a trainer for 23 years.
By bringing the two skills together LCA Transport Training are able to offer expert training sessions to LGV and PSV drivers alike.
Our main objectives are to ensure that drivers remain fully conversant with up to date transport legislation and continually improve their skills and knowledge, in order to maintain their driver CPC qualification.
Although mainly based in Bolton, LCA Transport are willing to offer training at convenient locations within the North West.
All you need to do now, is pick up the phone and give us a call or drop an email to book your modules, we offer classroom style learning but can also deliver in-house training to haulage companies of all sizes.
