Rickshaw Run The original tuk tuk adventure. No set route, just you, a 145cc rolling cake tin and thousands of miles of old school chaos. But he would have been wrong.

Take a three-wheeled glorified lawnmower, chuck in a couple of mates and throw it at India, Sri Lanka or the Himalayan mountains. Kneel before engineering’s highest life form. If God had made machines he probably wouldn’t have bothered with a Rickshaw. Essentially, it’s not a very good idea. They’re not very fast, they smell, they fall over when you go round corners and break down more often than a 3 year old. A days driving feels like you’ve been sat on by an elephant. But somehow, all this makes them better. They are, unquestionably, the greatest vehicle on the planet. The only way to to cross thousands of miles of adventure, the very pinnacle of un-style and lost-grace. The Rickshaw Run was created by The Adventurists. We’re fighting to make the world less boring. Our planet used to slap us about the face-cheeks with iron fists of adventure every day. Maps had edges to walk off. Men feared the monsters that lurked in the deep. Whole continents lay undiscovered. But now, the entire surface of the Earth has been scanned by satellites and shovelled into your mobile phone, tagged with twattery about which restaurant serves the best mocha-latte-frappesh*te. Getting lost and in trouble is no longer an occupational hazard of walking to the market. It is an art-form. One we strive to perfect. We live to find ways to make the world a bit more difficult. To bring chaos into our over-sanitised lives. To create adventures where you don’t know what will happen tomorrow or if you’ll even make it. Because we think there’s no greater moment than those seconds as you leap into an abyss of uncertainty and disaster.

Our latest cohort of Rickshaw Run All India teams have thundered forth into the excellence of India. They started in the golden city of Jaisalmer in the deserty bits of the north and are attempting to persuade their rickshaws down 3000kms of India to the city of Fort Kochi in the more moist setting of the south.

Accompanying our educational map of their un-route are some pictograms from the Rickshaw Run so far. Roadside repairs, welcome committees, morning line-ups, roadside sheep, back roads, pillow trucks, monkey chiefs, more back roads, an unlikely roadfellow - all in a good days adventuring for the Rickshaw Runner.

You can track the teams live using our Rickshaw Run Live tracking map at theadventurists.com, and if you fancy some adventuring on three wheels yourself in 2027, you can peruse your rickshaw shaped options whilst you're there.

The 2026 season of wobbling through the Himalayas by rickshaw has come gracefully to an end.

All rickshaws have been accounted for, as by some miracle were all Runners.

We attach for your admiration some digital evidence of their escapades as they coaxed their 3-wheeled wonder machines between the ever so pointy bits of Himachal Pradesh and the ever so deserty bits of Rajasthan. Look at all that grace…

The next Rickshaw Run Himalaya will set forth in July 2027. Should you fancy pitting yourself against the many-faceted folly of attempting to traverse the world’s highest mountain range in a rickshaw, you’ll need about 2 weeks and your wits. You can sign up for this and other 3-wheeled conundrums on our website at theadventurists.com.

The Rickshaw Run Himalaya is perilously close. Our crew in India has been feverishly tinkering with any mechanical object in sight and practising their lunges for the start line.

Next week, a fresh gathersome of Adventurists will attempt to coax their 3-wheeled, air-cooled, slightly-powered adventure machines from the deserts of Rajasthan to the mountains of the high Himalayas.

To understand what this might be like, imagine trying to get a badly designed, significantly underpowered lawn mower up the largest mountain range on earth. This is the adventuring genius these teams are about to embark upon. We have attached some photograms to further impart the wisdom of this undertaking.

Faint of heart, they are not. We salute their foolery.

If this looks like your sort of adventure, you're out of luck for 2026, but 2027 spots are open. The link to your own adventuring genius is in our bio.

It's sometimes hard to convey the Rickshaw Run All India so here's a digital slap around the chops utilising a photodump set to a "trending beat."

If it feels too fast and in-your-face, leaving you feeling like your eyes hurt, or you can't work out what just happened, that's the point. You will feel similar when partaking in the Rickshaw Run.

Your next chance is this September 2026.

The link, as it always is, is in our bio...

Partaking in the Rickshaw Run All India, means reflecting heavily on your relationship with cows.

Do not sign up thinking maybe you are the boss of cows. It's just not that way round.

However you achieve this realisation - meditation in a field of cows, a study of cow behaviour, staring into the eyes of a cow - if you one day intend to do the Rickshaw Run, make sure you achieve it.

As a start, here are some pictures of rickshaws and cows. Note that these cows enjoy an under-chin tickle at their leisure, have a mean bombastic side eye, are allowed to eat any part of your rickshaw, will not take any of your walking-in-their-road s**t and will absolutely judge you on your rickshaw repairs. Team SukySuky TukyTuky approached this by disguising their rickshaw as a cow. We don't know if this was out of solidarity or fear and we're pretty sure the cows knew they weren't a real cow. But we kept that to ourselves.

Apart from the above, if you want to sign up to the Rickshaw Run All India, you'll need to visit our world-wide website using the link in the bio. There are spots available this September if 2026 is your year of cow-conscious adventuring.

P.S Cows actually are sacred in the religious tenants of Hinduism, so really do not diss them.

If you feel synergy with this key takeaway we suggest you blue sky your keyboard towards a spot on the Rickshaw Run Himalaya this July. It sits at the intersection of chaos and adventuring joy. No whiteboards, no circling back and absolutey no touching of any bases.

Point a rolling cake tin at the Himalayas this very July. But not in September because that one is sold out.

6th July - 19th July, launching from the desert in Rajasthan and finishing lots of mountains and 3,500 metres of altitude later in Leh, Ladakh.

No set route, no back up. It's the Rickshaw Run. But more stupider.

"Best ever 3WD experience on 3 wheels" - Craig & Eva, Team on the Rickshaw Run Himalaya earlier this year.

It's a simple one: point a glorified lawnmower at the Himalayas. We go again in July and September next year if you fancy a spot of high altitude (and possibly a bit muddy) three-wheeling.

In case you were finding it hard to imagine that you're not king of the road when driving something as magnificent as a rickshaw across Sri Lanka, may the elephant be a reminder...

Following that brief health and safety announcement, are some other photos demonstrating the excellence of crossing Sri Lanka in a rickshaw and why you absolutely should try it for yourself. It's like a carefully composed 750 kilometer symphony of off-road tracks, lush tropical forests, sand strewn beaches, lagoons, mountainous highlands, rivers and tea plantations all perfectly blended with the 3-wheeled unreliability of an auto-rickshaw.

We consider this Run the gateway drug into the bosom of Adventurism. Like a warm bath of adventure, with water not quite deep enough to drown in but deep enough to keep you vigilant.

The next cohort of Rickshaw Run Sri Lanka teams have just been released into the wild. You can track their escapades at https://www.theadventurists.com/rickshaw-run-sri-lanka/rickshaw-run-sri-lanka-live/. They'll be raising money for our official charity partner and for a bunch of other splendid causes of the teams own choosing.

If you fancy persuading a rickshaw across Sri Lanka yourself, the next available spots are in January 2026.

From the desert furnace that is Jaisalmer to the shores of Fort Kochi, our teams dragged, pushed and limped their glorified lawnmowers across a country that had no intention of making it look easy.

Thousands of gruelling miles were driven and even more cows were dodged. They negotiated roads that barely deserved to be called that, and lost their dignity around mile 17, but now the dust has settled, punishments and awards have been given and the engines have cooled, all that chaos feels suspiciously like triumph and glory.

Of course, the only sensible response to finishing a rickshaw run is wanting to instantly start again.
