Momentum is committed to a socialist vision based on a progressive role for the state, including public ownership and progressive taxation, and to fighting for a socialist future:

* Britain is a more unequal society than at any time since the 1930s. We need an enforceable living wage, a decent state pension, council housing, and public services that are run to meet our needs, not sold off for pr

ivate profit

* We need a foreign policy which works for peace, justice and solidarity across the world.

* All people are of equal value. We believe in fighting all forms of prejudice and discrimination.

* With global capitalism in control of the political agenda, there is an urgent need for a major shift of wealth and power in favour of ordinary people.

* The Labour Party was originally set up to fight for workersメ rights, civil liberties and political representation. We must rediscover that desire for political, economic and social liberty.

* Given resource constraints and environmental pressures, we need a sustainable energy policy based on renewables; the development of affordable public transport, protection against flooding and freedom from fracking, and a housing policy which offers both affordable rental and ownership choices.

The Reform initiative has got national coverage. Locally Colchester Unite Against Racism are doing a fantastic job to make sure the proposal is challenged.

Andy Burnham was right to apologise for Labour’s stance on Gaza. But words alone won’t cut it.

Have you cast your ballot for Labour's National Executive Committee (NEC) yet? Voting is open until midday on Thursday 27th August.

We urge all Labour members to vote for Jess Barnard, Gemma Bolton and Yasmine Dar in the CLP section so they can continue to stand up for socialist and democratic values. Watch their latest video below:

https://x.com/PeoplesMomentum/status/2084254267104203228/video/1

We’re also recommending a vote for three Mainstream candidates - Cat Arnold, Jovan Owusu-Nepaul & Kerry Postlewhite - to rebuild democracy, pluralism and fair process within our Party.

If you haven't yet voted, search your inbox for the email from the Labour Party with the subject 'Your ballot - Labour Party elections', where you’ll be taken directly to the voting portal.

With the Single Transferrable Vote system, the way we rank our votes is very important. The best way to ensure our candidates get elected is if we rank our choices based on where we live.

Supporters in the East and South East, South London, and Wales should rank the member representative candidates as follows:

1. Jess Barnard

2. Gemma Bolton

3. Yasmine Dar

The Nadia Whittome MP Interview
Rise with your class and community not above them

On the latest episode of the Labour Left Podcast Bryn Griffiths interviews one of the best of the Labour 2019 intake the Socialist Campaign Group member Nadia Whittome.

Veteran Labour Lefties will recognise Nottingham East as the seat where back in 1987 Labour Leader Neil Kinnock prevented Sharon Atkin, who was instrumental in the establishment of the Labour Party Black Sections, from becoming the Labour candidate. When you listen to the podcast you’ll be left in no doubt Nottingham East Labour members got their socialist representative in the end!

Nadia entered Parliament in 2019 and she’s already making an impact. Pink News made her Politician of the Year and Diva Magazine’s Unsung Hero of the Year.

When Nadia Whittome stood for Labour in 2019 she said “’Rise with your class and community not above them”. Everything she has done since has demonstrated she really meant it.

The podcast starts with an assessment of the mood in the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP). As Andy Burnham starts his Labour Party Leadership we ask can we beat Nigel Farage? Continuing the discussion from the last episode with Sandy Martin, the Chair of the Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform, we consider whether Andy will deliver on his long-term support for proportional representation.

The podcast focuses on the issues that Nadia has made her own namely climate change, trans rights in the face of the Supreme Court Ruling and a consistent socialist internationalism that stretches from Gaza to Ukraine.

You can watch the podcast on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Audible, Substack and listen to it on Spotify. You can even ask Alexa to play the Labour Left Podcast. If your favourite podcast site isn’t listed, just search for the Labour Left Podcast and it should be there.
