π Bearing witness to animals in their last moments
βοΈ Promoting the vegan message with peaceful vigils
Please see 'About' section and tap on 'Privacy and Legal Info' Our vision is for all slaughterhouses to be shut down and we feel through peaceful outreach and advocacy, we can inspire positive change to encourage more people to stop paying for the slaughter of animals. We have a good relationshi
p and an agreement with the slaughterhouse that all trucks are stopped so we can take footage of the animals. This means the slaughterhouse employs security staff to stop the trucks, and in fact keep us out of harm's way. Because of our agreement we ask that all activists are respectful of the slaughterhouse workers and security, we also ask that there is no interaction with the drivers/farmers. If we fall out with ABP, or are even seen in a negative light, they could refuse to stop the trucks for us and if we went back to walking the trucks in, then the police would put a stop to our vigils. Which of course would be devastating for the animals and our potential to reach people with the vegan message. We request that under no circumstances are cameras put inside any of the vehicles and that if an animal is showing any sign of distress that we all step away from the truck. Cows are particularly sensitive to their surroundings, it would be wrong to add to their despair. This is not an outreach event and our main focus is to document the animals last moments. That being said, we do sometimes have drivers and passers by stop to ask questions. When this happens, please leave allow one activist to lead the conversation unless they ask for help or assistance with the conversation. We kindly ask that if a conversation arises between an activist and the public, that we do not record this interaction. Unless we need to record it to document a confrontation for the safety of our group. This is not an outreach event and should always remain about the animals and not about self-promotion. We sometimes receive verbal abuse from people driving past, we kindly ask everyone to do their best to not engage. Due to the location of the slaughterhouse, we also sometimes have people walking past, we ask activists not to engage with them unless they engage with us, and at all times to remain peaceful, calm and kind. This ensures that we continue to be seen as a peaceful group who cause no public nuisance and ultimately stay on the right side of the law. The vigils have always been and will continue to be about the animals, but we also have a duty of care to create a safe space for our regular attendees. This means that we will carefully monitor who attends our peaceful vigils and we will not tolerate any form of discrimination or problematic behaviour which could lead to activists feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. Please direct any correspondence to the Guildford Vigils Facebook and Instagram pages via private message. FAQ's:
How do I get involved? If youβd like to get involved and join us at a future vigil, please send the Guildford Vigils Instagram or page a private message. Can I bring my dog? Due to the location on a busy main road and potential hazards posed from big lorries, we recommend that you donβt bring your dog, unless they are very small and can be held in your arms when trucks arrive, or you are willing to stand back far away from the trucks when they arrive. All dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. What do I need to bring? We recommend bringing a selfie stick so you can get images and footage of the cows heading into the slaughterhouse. We recommend bringing something to drink for yourself, and a snack, as we will be present at the vigil for around four hours. Where do I park? There is very limited parking on the industrial estate, but you can park in Woodlands Road which is just a few minutes walk to ABP. Where is the train station / How do I get there from the train station? Train station: Guildford GU1 4UT Bus station: Guildford GU1 4YP
Get the bus to: Slyfield Green Woodlands Road (Bus 34, 35 or 538)
What do I need to wear? We recommend wearing suitable footwear and clothing. This is due to the location being on a main road, and the danger of being very close to large moving vehicles. If you own any animal rights clothing then please do wear this as it increases our opportunity to influence others. Are there toilets? There are toilets in the nearby service station.
