If you’re looking for authentic Italian food in Manchester, you’ve got to go to Dom’s Italia on Deansgate. ( it’s right across the road from Deansgate station)

We hadn’t booked and were so lucky to get a walk-in table and we were so glad we did!

The food was absolutely gorgeous. I could eat those home made dough balls and cannelloni right now.

The staff were lovely and the décor was beautiful. I also love a handwritten menu as it makes me feel like I’m on holiday. 😂

When you first spot The Atomium in Brussels it’s a real ‘wow’ moment. You can’t take your eyes off it as it’s such an unusual structure.

It was built for the Brussels World’s Fair in 1958 to represent a magnified iron crystal. It was only supposed to be a temporary building, but it ended up being too popular to take down.

It’s now the most popular visitor attraction in Europe and if you’re in Brussels I’d definitely put it on your list.

You can pay to go inside and see the different exhibitions. The best bit is travelling up and down the spheres in light show tubes. It’s defintely an experience. 🤣

When you get to the top sphere you have a 360’ view of Brussels.

There’s also a restaurant at the top that serves 2 or 3 course set menus. It’s definitely more of a treat than a quick lunch, but it was so worth it as the food was gorgeous.

We travelled there by train from Brussels city centre. It was two trains and a short walk to get there.

We attended the South Manchester Food Festival last weekend and had a brilliant time.

The highlight of our day was taking part in a pasta workshop with Stev at Pasta Ferrazza.

The workshop was in a marquee on site and all the equipment was provided. We were each given a wedge of pasta dough and spent the session learning how to create 10 different pasta shapes. It’s definitely not as easy as it looks, but it was so much fun!

Stev, who led the class, was really helpful and gave us lots of little snippets about pasta making in Italy.

By the end of the hour-long session, we each had a box full of hand-rolled pasta and could choose a sauce to take home with it.

Stev runs a number of pop-up events across the North West and I’m definitely going to try and book onto the focaccia and tiramisu making sessions next!

Rufford old Hall is a National Trust property.

It’s not one of the biggest national trust properties, but it has a stunning Tudor house with gardens, woodland walks and a beautiful historic hall to explore.

There’s a myth (with no actual evidence 😂) that William Shakespeare may have performed here with a travelling theatre troupe when he was young.

It’s not often I come across a developing heritage park, but that is what Becconsall - Lancashire’s living museum is.

The ambition is that it will be a place that tells the story of Lancashire through the ages.

At the moment it’s a developing nature reserve with a lovely forest walk around a central lake.

Whilst it’s only a small nature reserve, it has an unexpected gem with a restored WWII air raid shelter just sitting amidst the trees.

You can walk right through the air aid shelter and get a feel for what it would have been like. It’s dark though, so take a torch.

Becconsall is open from 10am-2pm and it’s a minimum £1 donation to enter.

They are hosting lots of events and prices differ for them.

Risley Moss Nature Reserve - Warrington

This is a really lovely nature trail with decent footpaths.

If you didn’t want to just potter around, you could follow one of the trails.

There are three trails you can follow;

1. Wildlife trail where you can try and find the flora / fauna
2.Follow the orienteering course (get your
map from the visitors centre)
3.The Boggarts and friends trail - This is wonderful and terrifying in equal measure

I’d never heard of a Boggart until I visited here. Apparently, Boggarts are mythical creatures that live in peat bogs and wood sculptures of them are dotted around the reserve. This is all very well, until you realise they look like they’ve stepped out of a horror film. Think wooden sculpture with a snarl. 😂
