The Welkin

The Welkin The Welkin Horrocks was probably born in Toxteth in 1619. Horrocks died a little over a year later, on 3rd January 1641, aged just twenty-two.

The Welkin

The Name for the Welkin derives from the Old English word for sky, and commemorates Jeremiah Horrocks, one of Liverpool’s greatest sons and ‘Father of English Astronomy’. He later taught himself astronomy, and spent many hours studying the position of the Moon and the planets against the stars. His famous observation of the transit of Venus against the face of the Sun was made in the village of Much Hoole, fifteen miles north of Liverpool.

General information

Welcome to The Welkin. over the coming months and hopefully years we will let you into our world, introduce you to the Team and inform you of offers and Charity activities which we hope you will join in with. All money that is raised by us and the other Liverpool pubs goes to children suffering from cancer and lukemia ( CLIC sargent) in the Liverpool area so it could be someone you know it is helping. We do collect all year round by boxes situated on both bars but the staff all join in to raise that little bit more by activities they organise throughout the year. Once again welcome and we all hope you enjoy visiting this site and come and see us in person. The Welkin Team x
