In the heart of Dungarvan, this charming coastal market town provides the perfect backdrop for a stay filled with character, comfort and genuine local warmth. The Horsom family have taken a 16th-century grain store and restored it with real sensitivity, creating boutique accommodation that feels stylish without ever losing its soul. With beautifully presented B&B rooms and self-catering apartments available, Crews suits couples, families and independent travellers alike. Its harbour-side location places you close to Dungarvan’s atmosphere, restaurants and coastal beauty, while Waterford itself offers so much to explore. Personal, welcoming and full of charm, Crews is a little gem.

Blackwater Eco Tours
Blackwater Eco Tours is a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with pride, purpose and vision. Based in Villierstown, this not-for-profit social enterprise has grown into one of the area’s most enjoyable attractions, and having endorsed it in the previous edition of this book, it is wonderful to see how far it has developed. The guided boat trips remain a fantastic way to experience the beauty, wildlife and stories of the Blackwater, but there is now even more to enjoy. With self-drive boats, kayaking, walking trails and the welcoming community boathouse, this is an attraction with real heart behind it. It is affordable, authentic and suitable for families, couples, groups or solo explorers. Places like this deserve real support, because they give visitors genuine memories while benefiting the local community. Don’t miss it, this is highly recommended, Blackwater Eco Tours is a real gem.

Newtown Farm Country House
Newtown Farm Country House really does capture Irish hospitality in its most genuine form. Teresa and Maurice O’Connor have been welcoming guests into their wonderful home for many years, and their warmth is felt from the moment you arrive. Beautifully positioned beside their family dairy farm, close to Ardmore and Dungarvan, this is a wonderful base for exploring this special corner of County Waterford. The O’Connor family are now the fourth generation to farm these lands, giving every stay a real sense of heritage and place. I first endorsed Newtown Farm Country House over a decade ago, and it is a pleasure to see standards continue to rise. With cosy bedrooms, a homely atmosphere and a fantastic breakfast, this is country house accommodation done properly.

Keepers Arms
Located just over the border from beautiful Co. Fermanagh, the Keepers Arms in Co. Cavan is one of those wonderfully traditional Irish pubs that instantly feels familiar. Set within the UNESCO Geopark, it places visitors among breathtaking landscapes, fascinating attractions and easy touring routes through Cavan, Fermanagh and the surrounding counties. What I particularly like here is its genuine sense of place. This is a pub loved by locals, yet equally welcoming to visitors looking for real Irish hospitality. The accommodation is traditional, cosy and comfortable, offering excellent value for money without losing any of its charm. For those exploring this scenic corner of Ireland, the Keepers Arms makes a warm, practical and thoroughly enjoyable base. But don’t just take my word for it, see for yourselves!

Located perfectly just over the border into the south from beautiful Co. Fermanagh, it has that warm, easy-going charm that makes visitors feel like regulars within minutes. Food here is hearty, honest and satisfying, the kind of pub fare that suits hungry travellers, families and locals alike. There is a real sense that the kitchen really does understands\ what people want: generous plates, good flavour and value for money. Whether you are stopping off while exploring the UNESCO Geopark or making it a destination in itself, the Keepers Arms offers food with friendliness, character and plenty of Irish heart.

The Bridge Guesthouse

Family run, it offers that personal touch which travellers always remember, with a friendly team headed up by Laura & Clarke, who clearly care about every guest’s stay. The accommodation is comfortable, cosy and thoughtfully presented, while the stylish furniture and décor give the rooms a fresh, homely feel. Its location is ideal for exploring the Fermanagh region, whether you’re here for lakes, countryside, attractions or a relaxing short break. Best of all, a stay here will not break the bank, leaving you with money to enjoy dinner in one of the region’s excellent restaurants. Highly recommended.

Hillstown Farm Shop & EJ’s Country Kitchen
Farm shops are something I would love to see far more of, and here at the Hillstown Farm Shop, this is a shining example of exactly why. Brothers Nigel and Ally Logan have created a place where care, provenance and honest family farming sit at the heart of everything they serve. With produce coming directly from their own farm here in Antrim, the phrase field to fork feels genuinely earned here. There is a real sense of pride in what they do, and that quality continues next door at EJ’s Country Kitchen. Led by Marlyn McKay and Natasha McClean, they and their team serve fantastic food at prices that will not break the bank and with fantastic customer service, you’ll be glad you stopped by!

The Emmet Clonakilty
The Emmet Hotel in Clonakilty feels like a boutique stay done properly, freshly refurbished, beautifully finished, and refreshingly free of the pretence that can come with the label. All rooms here are thoughtfully designed with quality furnishings, calm lighting and those small touches that make an overnight feel special. With a choice of deluxe and superior rooms, there genuinely isn’t a weak option in the house. Owners Rebecca and Robert are hands-on and it shows; there’s a warmth and personal pride here that you simply can’t fake. Practical luxury comes as standard too, from Dyson air purifiers to coffee pod machines and all the comforts you’d expect from top-tier bedrooms in top tier hotels. Add a genuinely friendly team, and you’re in very safe hands.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Dining at The Emmet Hotel Clonakilty feels like another strong reason to book a stay. Alongside its beautifully finished, highly furnished rooms, the food offering is a real headline act. The owners and their kitchen team clearly care about provenance, sourcing the very best from West Cork’s outstanding local producers, and it shows on the plate. The menu is confident and crowd-pleasing, with thick tomahawk steaks for those in the mood for something indulgent, and comforting classics like a proper West Cork fish pie packed with freshness. There’s also quality chicken dishes and plenty of choice for different tastes, making it an easy win for couples, families, and solo travellers alike. In a town famed for its hospitality, this kitchen more than holds its own.

Inchydoney Lodge & Spa
Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa feels like it was made for couples who want to slow down and breathe, with the Atlantic stretching out beyond the windows and the beach just steps away. Clonakilty’s West Cork Model Village
I first visited Clonakilty’s West Cork Model Railway Village back in 2025 and it instantly won me over. Set in beautifully tended gardens, this is far more than a model display; it’s a lovingly crafted window into 1940s West Cork, complete with miniature streetscapes, bustling little towns and a historic railway line that brings the whole scene to life. The workmanship is simply outstanding, every roof tile, shopfront and tiny detail feels considered, and you can’t help but linger, spotting new touches with each building. It’s an attraction that genuinely appeals to all ages, children are wide-eyed at the moving trains, while adults appreciate the nostalgia and craftsmanship behind the scenes. Allow extra time for your visit, take lots of photos, and have fun. Add in a welcoming, helpful team and a very fair admission price, and you have a Clonakilty gem that fully deserves its Top 100 Attractions status.
