It'd be even better if the Train Operating Companies would price their last-minute off-peak tickets at a price low enough to fill their trains!

Happy New Year to HackTrain and everyone else who cheered us on in 2015-16.
Dynamic pricing is of course what Spontraineous was trying to introduce to off-peak trains. We hit the buffers back at Easter when the two train operators we were working with explained that they couldn't do it. We never spoke to London Midland but the real blocker is UK rail regulation that forces train operators to run too much capacity at off-peak times. Dynamic pricing doesn't work when a train has "near infinite spare capacity".
How does the trend away from a single price for a single product affect consumers?

Hi guys, thanks to all the interest from our recent visitors. Our social media campaign is work in progress - there is so much going on this week. We are trying to finalize the details of our trial prior to our launch, we are getting plenty of help with our technology partners at BAE Systems with our website design and so, whilst there's so much going on behind the scenes, we will be keeping you informed once there's more information about our trial. Watch this space, akan datang!

We can fly to Europe for a long weekend for £30 but can't go anywhere inside Britain for that money. At the same time some weekend trains are running nearly empty to beautiful railway towns that would love those visitors. Spontraineous will address this problem of unsold inventory on the trains, an issue yield managers have been trying to solve for decades.
Spontraineous is bringing the airlines' "perishable goods" approach to the rail industry and bringing tourists to the forgotten gems of the UK -- a win-win for both the rail and the tourism industry.
