🚛💯THE TRUTH ABOUT BEING A REMOVAL MAN THAT NOBODY TALKS ABOUT.💯🚛
People often look at the removals industry and think it’s just a matter of turning up, carrying furniture, loading a van and going home. If only it were that simple!
The truth is, being a proper removal man is not for everyone, and not everyone will last in this industry.
It takes a certain kind of person to do this job properly. You need physical strength, yes, but that’s only a small part of it. You need stamina, patience, common sense, attention to detail, problem solving skills and above all, the right attitude.
You might start your day at 9am thinking you’re moving a straightforward three bedroom house. Then reality kicks in! The wardrobes are bigger than expected, the stairs are tighter than they looked, the customer has another 20 boxes that weren’t mentioned, the parking is a nightmare, and the weather decides to give you four seasons in one hour! 🌧️
And you still have to get the job done safely, protect the customer’s belongings, keep a smile on your face and work as a team.
That’s when you find out who is really cut out for this job.
Some people start full of enthusiasm, but when the novelty wears off and the long days, heavy lifting and hard work become routine, they disappear. Others are happy when the job is easy, but when things get difficult, their attitude changes, they start watching the clock or looking for someone else to do the hard work.
Then you have the genuine grafters. The ones who don’t need chasing, who see what needs doing and get on with it. The ones who help their teammates rather than complain, who think about how to solve a problem instead of making excuses, and who understand that the job isn’t finished until the customer is happy.
A proper removal man doesn’t just throw furniture into a van. He knows how to protect it, how to load it securely, how to distribute the weight, how to dismantle and reassemble furniture, and how to handle valuable or sentimental items with care. He understands that one careless mistake can ruin something that cannot simply be replaced.
And there’s another side to this job that people don’t always see:
The responsibility!
Customers trust you with their homes, their possessions and sometimes their most precious memories. They might be moving after 30 or 40 years in the same house, starting a new chapter in life, or dealing with the stress of a property sale. They don’t need a team bringing more stress to their day. They need people they can rely on.
At Goosnargh Removals, we’ve learned that having strong people is important, but having the RIGHT people is priceless.
We’ve worked with different people over the years. Some have been absolute stars, genuine hard workers who we will always respect and wish the very best to. Others have taught us valuable lessons about attitude, commitment and what it really takes to work in this industry.
Running a removals business also means carrying responsibility for your staff, your customers, your vehicles, your insurance and your reputation. When a team member doesn’t turn up, the job doesn’t disappear. The customer is still waiting, the vans still need loading, and the promises we’ve made still have to be kept. That’s the pressure behind the scenes that most people never see.
Of course, we all have difficult days. We’re human. We get tired, we have a laugh, we wind each other up, and sometimes we wonder why on earth we chose this line of work! But there’s a real sense of satisfaction when a difficult job comes together, the team pulls through, and the customer tells you how much they appreciate what you’ve done.
That’s what makes it worthwhile.
The removals industry will teach you a lot about people. It will test your patience, your physical strength, your attitude and your character. Not everyone will last, and that’s simply the reality of the job.
You don’t have to be the strongest person in the room. You don’t have to know everything on day one. But you must be willing to learn, work hard, respect the team, take responsibility and care about the job you’re doing.
Because, at the end of the day, we can teach someone how to carry a wardrobe, but we cannot teach someone to care if they don’t want to.
Respect to every proper removal man out there who turns up, puts in the graft and takes pride in what he does. You deserve it. 👏
And to all our past and present team members who have genuinely worked hard alongside us, thank you. We wish you nothing but success in whatever comes next.
Goosnargh Removals we plan, we adapt, we care, we deliver a guaranteed smile. 🏡
