Church bells, horse-drawn carriages and cake. Vienna, it was lovely to see you again.

One of the things I love most about sailing the Danube is waking up somewhere completely different each morning. This time it was Vienna, a city I hadn’t visited for quite a few years, and it was lovely to rediscover it.

My day started walking to St Stephen’s Cathedral, where I listened to Sunday Mass before wandering through the city centre, taking in the beautiful architecture, elegant streets and grand courtyards & the sound of horse-drawn carriages.

But if I’m honest, one of my favourite moments was standing outside Demel watching the pastry chefs at work. Their creations looked almost too good to eat - well almost it would be rude not to try.

That’s what I love about travel. Sometimes it’s not the famous sights you remember most, but the unexpected little moments the sweet aromas that evoke memories.

And that’s one of the joys of river cruising along the Danube. Every morning brings a new city, new experiences and new memories waiting to be made.

Food is always one of the highlights of any trip for me, so I couldn’t wait to try the dining onboard Viva Enjoy and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

With three restaurants to choose from Riverside, Moments and VIVA’s Bistro there was plenty of variety throughout the cruise. Breakfast could be as relaxed or as quick as you wanted, with a buffet available for those eager to get out exploring, or a delicious à la carte breakfast if you preferred a slower start to the day.

Lunch was served in all three restaurants, with Riverside offering buffet starters and desserts alongside freshly served à la carte mains. In the evenings, all three venues were open, with Riverside offering flexible dining and Moments and VIVA’s Bistro providing a more intimate experience with reservations. Add in local wines throughout meal service and every meal felt like a real occasion.

As someone with food allergies, meal times can sometimes be something I worry about. I love my food, but if I’m ever unsure, I’d rather go without than take a risk. The team onboard were simply outstanding. They took the time to understand my requirements and on several occasions the chefs prepared dishes especially for me. That level of care meant I could completely relax and enjoy every meal.

The food itself was beautifully presented and while some dishes looked modest in size when they arrived, the portions were actually spot on. I never left the table feeling hungry, just pleasantly satisfied. And if you did fancy a little extra, the staff were always happy to bring more.

For me, great food is about so much more than what’s on the plate. It’s the service, the atmosphere and the feeling that you’re being looked after. Viva Enjoy got all of that absolutely right, making every meal something to look forward to.

Sometimes the smallest discoveries become the biggest memories. ❤️

During our stop in Passau on my Viva river cruise, a short walk uphill led us to the most beautiful church square and the magnificent St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The stunning architecture and breathtaking frescoes were one of those sights that make you stop and simply take it all in.

We then wandered through Passau’s charming narrow streets, enjoying the welcome shade from the crazy hot spring sun before emerging into the small bustling market square. Known as the City of Three Rivers, Passau sits where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet, and its rich history and character can be felt around every corner.

But if I’m honest, it wasn’t the cathedral that became my favourite memory of the day

It was stepping into a traditional cuckoo clock workshop.

The intricate craftsmanship, carving, the moving figures, the attention to detail every clock felt was a miniature work of art. Ofcourse I had to wait for the cuckoo chime too.

That’s what I love about travel. You set out to see the famous sights, but often it’s the unexpected little discoveries that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.

Just been onboard VIVA Enjoy and I have to say… this ship has such a fun, modern feel to it. Definitely not your typical “traditional” river cruise vibe.

The cabins instantly impressed me — huge balcony windows, loads of storage and honestly one of the biggest shower rooms I’ve seen on a river ship. Everything felt bright, fresh and really spacious.

Food onboard was another highlight. Smaller plates but packed with flavour and all beautifully served to the table rather than buffet style, which made it feel much more special. The Bistro was probably the most fun dining spot for me, whilst Moments had a lovely evening atmosphere — both are worth booking for dinner. Riverside felt a little livelier and had more of that classic cruise energy in the evenings.

What I really loved overall was the atmosphere onboard. Stylish but relaxed, modern without trying too hard and just a really easy ship to enjoy. I can completely see why VIVA Cruises are getting so much attention right now.
