Operation Seabird - Maritime Property Marking Event will take place
on Thursday. This multi-agency partnership brings together the Devon & Cornwall Police Rural Affairs Team, the Salcombe Harbour Authority, and other local partners.

Operation Seabird: This nationwide campaign raises profile awareness around maritime wildlife disturbance and marine crime. Officers and partner agencies will be engaging with the public to provide guidance on how to enjoy coastal waters responsibly without causing stress or harm to local marine wildlife.

The event will also include information and equipment to securely mark high-value items and register them in a database, making it significantly easier for police to reunite recovered stolen goods with their rightful owners.

⚠️ Weekend Weather Advisory

After a particularly pleasant summer season, this weekend is expected to bring a significant change in weather conditions, with strong winds and heavy rainfall forecast across the region for the first time in many weeks.

We strongly encourage anyone planning to go afloat to make appropriate preparations and exercise extra caution. Forecast conditions include strong south-westerly winds, heavy rain, possible thunderstorms, increased swell, and spring tides, all of which may create challenging conditions on the water.

Please ensure your vessel is securely moored and thoroughly checked. Particular attention should be given to mooring lines, fenders, and any equipment that could become loose in strong winds. Owners are also advised to ensure vessels are adequately bailed and free from any significant accumulation of rainwater.

Two recent collisions are an important reminder that things can happen incredibly quickly on the water. A momentary loss of control, an unexpected throttle movement or the helm leaving the controls can have serious consequences. These instances are from vessels coming alongside to berth or already berthed and feature vessels with electronic throttles, some of which can engage drive without a deliberate action/physical button. We therefore reiterate the following important safety precautions in the infographic poster below.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the staff at Salcombe Harbour Authority as a Moorings Officer. In this role, you will contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the harbour and be the Harbour Master’s representative on the water, managing daily afloat operations. Responsibilities include meeting visiting vessels and allocating suitable moorings, maintenance of all harbour infrastructure including moorings, pontoons and aids to navigation. Most importantly, you will be directly contributing to the excellent reputation of Salcombe Harbour as a friendly and safe port.

The successful candidate will be a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced small boat handler (RYA powerboat level 2 or greater) with excellent customer service skills, computer literate, numerate and have experience with Point of Sale operations. The ability to be flexible enough to work outdoors, unsociable hours and weekends are essential.

A small outboard engine was stolen from the boat park last night 29/7. The individual responsible was captured clearly on our CCTV system, so we will be following it up.

While incidents like this are thankfully quite unusual in our community, the busy summer season brings a significant increase in activity, and unfortunately opportunistic theft can sometimes occur as a result.

This is therefore also a reminder to all other harbour users to ensure valuable equipment is as secure as possible or removed when not in use.

Thank you to everyone who continue to contribute towards keeping our harbour safe and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

SALCOMBE TOWN REGATTA – HARBOUR SWIM 31st July 2026

Salcombe Town Regatta cross-harbour swim will take place between 08:00 and 08:30 Friday 31st July 2026 between Smalls Cove and Cliff House gardens (SYC Race Start Line) during which a Harbour Closure will be in force. All traffic will be asked to hold clear of the red box (between Ager Point (Mill Bay) and the East Portlemouth Ferry crossing) for the duration; this will be broadcast on VHF Ch 14 and enforced by harbour launches.

LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS NO 11 OF 2026

SALCOMBE TOWN REGATTA –

ESTUARY OF LIGHTS and FIREWORKS DISPLAY 30th July 2026

The Salcombe Town Regatta Estuary of Lights is open to all, to decorate/light you own boat. Please find somewhere in advance of the fireworks to moor or anchor, in line with the firework restrictions below. All vessels are to comply with Salcombe Harbour Byelaws. Vessels are to remain self-propelled (not towed) and navigate as normal without any dressing or decoration detrimentally effecting their ability to make way, manoeuvre, maintain a look out, display navigation lights or comply with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.

The Salcombe Town Regatta Firework Display will take place at 22:00 Thursday 30th July from a pontoon in the middle of the harbour near Town/Fisherman’s Beach. An exclusion zone centred on the fireworks pontoon (50°14’.139N 3°45’.831W) will be maintained for the duration, indicated by the red circle, this may be expanded depending on wind strength. The pontoon and tow boat are restricted in their manoeuvrability and need to be treated as such and given a wide berth.

FIREWORK TECHNICIANS WILL NOT COMMENCE THE DISPLAY
IF THE EXCLUSION ZONE IS NOT CLEAR

All vessels are to temporarily moor or anchor (alongside another boat where necessary) during the display to maintain position without the need to be underway. Anchoring will be prohibited adjacent to Town/Fisherman’s Beach. During the display the Harbour Taxi will remain berthed and suspend operations. Access to Normandy and Whitestrand pontoons will be restricted before and during the display. Many boats and tenders will congregate for the duration of the event but we would like to remind everyone that displaying navigation lights is essential while under way after sunset – for small tenders, this may only be a torch. All vessels should exercise extreme caution navigating in a busy waterway, keeping speed and wake to a minimum whilst maintaining a good look out.
