An excellent few days at the British Association of Removers Conference at the end of last week, a great opportunity to catch up with industry colleagues, hear from inspiring speakers and look ahead to the future of the removals industry.

One of the highlights of Friday evening was guest speaker Carl Chinn, fresh from celebrating Aston Villa’s recent European success. The well-known local historian and radio presenter gave a fascinating and entertaining insight into Birmingham’s history, with plenty of stories and humour along the way.

We were especially pleased to hear Wolverhampton and ourselves, mentioned twice during the presentation! A reminder of the rich history and heritage of our region. We also learnt that in years gone by, Wolverhampton was actually a bigger town than Birmingham!

A big thank you to the BAR team for organising another successful event.

A great start to the British Association of Removers Annual Conference in Birmingham this week, with Gary and Melanie Burke the very first delegates to sign in as the event opened yesterday morning.

Hosted in the heart of Birmingham, the conference brings together professionals from across the industry for a packed programme of networking, insights, discussion and collaboration. It’s always a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, share ideas and look ahead to the future of the industry.

We’re looking forward to a productive and inspiring few days.

UK property transactions may have slowed compared to last year, but locally we’re still seeing plenty of movement in the market.

Recent HMRC figures show March housing transactions were down year-on-year, although experts point out that 2025 was boosted by buyers rushing to complete before stamp duty changes.

Encouragingly, local agents are still reporting steady viewing levels and agreed sales where homes are priced realistically.

As one local property expert, Peter James of Peter James Property, told us:

“From what we’re seeing locally, there’s a good level of buyer interest out there, especially when properties are priced correctly. Viewing numbers have remained fairly steady and homes are continuing to agree sales, although buyers are taking a little more time before making decisions.

The market feels more normal now compared to the rush we saw a couple of years ago, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Buyers have more choice, and sellers who are realistic on pricing are still achieving good results.

Overall, there’s still confidence in the market and people are getting on with their moves when the property and price are right.”

For movers, this means the market is becoming more balanced, with buyers having more choice and people taking a little more time to plan their next move.
