Ghanaian women mostly prepare food outdoors over an open fire🔥 This here is a typical kitchen in a village in Central Ghana.
The food is prepared from start to finish using fresh and natural ingredients, and no semi-prepared foods are used. Everything has to be cleaned, chopped, ground, pounded and cooked, and because of this, preparing one proper meal can easily take half a day. When people finally eat, they eat properly. The portions are large because for many people this may be the only main meal of the day.
One thing that immediately catches our attention is that chopping boards are not used here. Tomatoes, onions, chillies and other ingredients are chopped with a knife directly while being held in the hand.
On our trips to Ghana, whenever possible, we try to take part in this kind of cooking... not just watch from the side, but actually get involved ourselves. Because there is no better place to understand local life and culture than the kitchen and the conversations that happen there 🇬🇭❤️
